Is URM supposed to help when looking for a job? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard it's only useful for admission to law school.

Yes, it helps quite a bit.

As a URM from last cycle, I didn't feel this to be the case. I've seen anecdotes going both ways but it is definitely far from a sure thing (even if your resume telegraphs it).

URM won't get you a job all by itself, just as it won't get you into law school without certain numbers. Just because it wasn't enough of a boost to get you a job doesn't mean the boost doesn't exist.

I feel like I emphasize it enough. I talk about the challenges of growing up as a URM, and how I had to overcome adversity, etc.

If you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose. I mass-mailed hundreds of firms after striking out at OCI and I've received hundreds of letters and emails dinging me. It's disheartening, but I'm going to let a firm be the one to tell me "no." In the end, I received an offer to join a V5 for the summer. I would have never dreamed I'd end up at such an amazing firm, but I applied anyway. Spend the two minutes to email them your information.

Congratulations... now that is impressive. Hopefully this also quiets some of the "if you did not get a job, it is probably your fault" crowd at TLS. Btw, you are not the only one I hear of getting nothing but a V5 offer from firms.

Is it currently too late in the game to get an offer from a Vault firm?

I'm saying that it no stage in the process (converting an application to a screener, converting a screener to a callback, converting a callback to an offer) did I feel like that things would have been different had I not been a URM. Again, I'm not saying there is no such thing as some employers favoring certain types of minorities. I'm saying that in my experience (yay personal anecdote), it did not feel like it mattered one bit.

Surely you understand that your feelings on this have zero consequence. I'm not even sure how you can make this assessment. Not only is this anecdotal, it's anecdotal evidence that's based entirely on speculation about how other people treated/viewed you.

That's even less helpful than anecdotal evidence.

Let's get back to posting about jobs. Most firms specializing in labor and employment law don't start looking for summer associates until much later in the season. Might be good to hit them up
