No. This is just TLS mantra. At some firms that may be the case but at many others it's not; especially in secondary markets. I've had partners tell me that it's often used to at the end of the summer to make cuts where everyone is fine but they simply are not going to give out 100 percent offers. In other words, not only does it matter after the callback, it can even matter AFTER you're finished with your actual summer position.
Sorry, but this just isn't true. Know first-hand that ATL's top three or four firms largely disregard grades after callbacks. In fact, interviewers don't even know grades for the most part. It's purely a question of whether the candidate will fit in with the office personality and whether associates want to work with the candidate.

To put it bluntly, BruceWayne, every single one of your posts serves only to scare people into thinking they will strike out in Atlanta. Things are picking up, though. The top firms are still competitive, don't get me wrong. But to say that people (with strong ties - i.e., grew up ITP) from T14 schools, even those below median, around the country can't return to ATL is naive.
lol'd at bold.

All you OTPers - especially you, Cobb - better invent a good story for why you want to work in Atlanta and whether you'll be able to meet the billables reqs if you're wasting 2+ hours a day in traffic on 75/85!

Couldn't resist. Back to regularly scheduled bickering, guys.

ITP was only an example. Anywhere in the fucking state of georgia would do.

Top 3% at one of UGA/Emory. Struck out in Atlanta. Landed five callbacks at firms in other markets through mass mailing. Yea it's not impossible but if you can do basic math you can see how competitive the Atlanta market it.

Hence why my post was directed at T14.

Emory/UGA are largely overrated IMO

I'm fascinated that there are people out there who still think below median at a T14 makes you competitive for Atlanta. Where does this idea come from? Your career services people?

Multiple people I know at my bottom T14 getting not only callbacks to K&S, A&B, and Sutherland - but two have gotten offers. Both are K-JD and below median.

Fascinating, huh!?

I'm at YHS and got an offer at one of those firms last year, with zero ties to Atlanta and a weak resume. I talked to a couple of other people at my school who bid on Atlanta, and they both got offers. I'm not convinced that Atlanta is any worse than other desirable non-NY markets (Boston, San Francisco, even Chicago).

To put it bluntly, BruceWayne, every single one of your posts serves only to scare people into thinking they will strike out in Atlanta. Things are picking up, though. But to say that people (with strong ties - i.e., grew up ITP) from T14 schools, even those below median, around the country can't return to ATL is naive.
Then the economy has had a 100 percent turnaround in Atlanta for the class of 2016. UVA has GPA offer rates for Atlanta firms that show average GPAs in the top 10 percent for offers from the post boom years prior to now. Duke had similar numbers. Tons of posters on this site with far more job hunt/search experience than yourself have posted numerous times as to how brutal the market was (many of them top 14 and Vandy students). I and many others from Georgia (including Atlanta) with below median grades struck out soundly from UVA. From what you're saying Atlanta has now dropped their grade cutoffs by 30% or more in only a few years. Possible I suppose; but it seems unlikely based off of the hard evidence of recent years. Basically what you're saying is that the legal recession is over and people need to start going to law school.

The other issue with what you're saying is that it would require ATL firms to substantially increase their summer class sizes (like to almost pre recession levels when places like Alston had 40 person summer classes). Either that or they would have to completely change their hiring model from taking mostly top of class at UGA/Emory/GA State to mostly top 14 hiring.
Also these posts really shouldn't be anon.

I know a few people who have gotten offers in Atlanta with grades below the usual cutoffs at lower T14s and Vandy. Most of these people have strong connections, meaning they come from rich families and went to Lovett, Westminster, etc.

Anyone heard from A&B after a CB, or know when their hiring committee meets to determine offers for CB last week?

No hard timetables but at my CB all the hiring committee people suggested they liked to move slow. Wouldn't surprise me if they finish up CBs before doing offers.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
