Let's establish first that this is correlation and not causation. Non UMC just feel out of place when surrounded by UMC which makes it harder to connect, interview, and be less awkward overall. Similar to how people of similar racial backgrounds or of the same gender may feel more comfortable knowing the other person understands where they're coming from and has shared experiences, non UMC feel more comfortable with other non UMC. That comfort level allows people to be more natural, less stiff, awkward, etc. People can still overcome that with practice, but I imagine for K-JD it's especially hard because they've interacted less with people of different backgrounds.Anonymous User wrote:The link between UMC background and job/callback success is that UMCs don’t interview as well because they don’t golf, play polo, etc.?
Also, imposter syndrome only gets heightened knowing how different you are from those around you so that's another difficulty.
