Re: 2017 Pre-OCI Interviews
My experience was mailing straight to CB w/ no screener. I think this had to do with grades, but not positive since I really hadn't done that much networking at STB. For reference, I'm top 5-10% at a T10.Anonymous User wrote:Also interested in how long it took from mailing -> screenerAnonymous User wrote:

That makes sense. I'm top 15%-25% at a T10. Thank you and good luckAnonymous User wrote:My experience was mailing straight to CB w/ no screener. A lot of places last year filled/ almost completely filled their classes before oci for nyc, DC, and la offices. This year offers have gone out even earlier than last year. You can ignore my advice, but at your own peril.
Also, to chime in with the H poster above, NYU didn't expressly say not to do it, but they really don't encourage it. I've never heard of anyone having trouble landing a top firm from our EIW.
People don't publicize their strikeouts. I can almost guarantee you that there are some people who "have trouble" getting a firm job from your OCI. I only got one offer (coming from another CCN school) and I know multiple people from NYU who only got one offer. That might not be "hav[ing] trouble" but it's close. My firm is good but it's not what you'd call a "top firm" (whatever that means---it does pay market).
Don't tell people that OCI is easier than it actually is or give people false confidence. Please. People need to be hustling.

Re: 2017 Pre-OCI Interviews
I didn't say that striking out was impossible. But I'm still extremely confused about why the people claiming that mass mailing is a necessary activity are refusing to publicly list the firms that "fill up" prior to OCI. If it happens, it's important to know, but it doesn't make any sense. These firms waste a ton of money and time sending people to various OCIs. I just don't buy that they're wasting all those resources if they don't have any space left in their summer classes, especially because no one seems to want to be specific about this vital information in a public thread.Anonymous User wrote:Are you a rising 2L or a rising 3L?

I'm not being optimistic or pessimistic. I just want to see some actual information.
ETA: Getting an offer is the definition of not having trouble with OCI. You're at a firm that pays market. Congrats, you won, stop worrying about whether other people are judging you for not being able to say, "I'm with Cravath."

Re: 2017 Pre-OCI Interviews
Interviewing people now saves them the money of having to fly people to them and put them in hotels if the interviewees are in the city for their summer job. It also lets them cut down on the number of people they have to send out to the schools during OGI.Anonymous User wrote:second anon. i don't think they said anything to me about waiting till after OCI, they just said it wouldn't be the normal OCI-Callback-style quick turn around (but maybe they did say after OCI, i dunno). there was another post in this thread that said there was an offer received from STB and that was 4-5 business days. in any case, it would seem odd to bring you in that early only to know they weren't gonna extend an offer to you until at least after OCI, so i don't think it'd be a ding, just something they tell everyone in one way or another.Anonymous User wrote:First Anon here- Wanted to double-check and see whether it was a soft ding or is actually legit. Re: 2017 Pre-OCI Interviews
I'm at NYU, wondering if others have had a similar experience: I managed to get a couple pre-EIW interviews in NY, but I've gotten several responses that say, essentially, "You are a good candidate, but we follow NYU's guidelines of not interviewing before EIW, so see you at EIW." Are there other NYU people out there who have secured a bunch of pre-EIW spots in NY (without some sort of special connection)? I'm fortunate to be in a good situation, not worried about striking out at EIW, but wondering whether these firms are being forthright with me and are actually telling all NYU students the same thing or whether my stats/resume just don't quite have the "wow" factor to get pre-EIW slots.

For people who have gone through the process already with STB, what was the turnaround time from screener to CB?

I'm certain that the holiday weekend affected it. And I'm sure it varies a little bit anyways -- I'd follow up if you haven't heard back in another week, but I'd ditch the "omg I'm screwed" thought process, if only for your mental sanity for the near future.Anonymous User wrote:so are we screwed then if we interviewed with STB early last week and have yet to hear? how much would the holiday effect it?Rh1no wrote:

Re: 2017 Pre-OCI Interviews
NYU here. Have a V5 offer, so can say not all of them "follow NYU's guidelines". But you said you have some interviews already, so you know that already. I imagine some firms are legit waiting, but a lot aren't. I'm around top 10%, but I have no idea if that had anything to do with them moving quick.Anonymous User wrote:I'm at NYU, wondering if others have had a similar experience: I managed to get a couple pre-EIW interviews in NY, but I've gotten several responses that say, essentially, "You are a good candidate, but we follow NYU's guidelines of not interviewing before EIW, so see you at EIW."
