Having only 20 SAs in the NY office doesn't bode well for the firm's future... I'd be worried about Cadwalader, especially with the other news that has come out about them in the past year.Anonymous User wrote:Cadwalader

Especially considering they cancelled their DC summer program almost without warning. I had lunch with a partner there and he was talking about the next summer class and a few days later no more DC program. They had like 10 summers there last year. Lots of bad signs out of Cad.Anonymous User wrote:Having only 20 SAs in the NY office doesn't bode well for the firm's future... Has Weil's NYC class always been this big? For some reason I used to think it was more around the 50-60 rangeAnonymous User wrote:Weil - NYC (100)

Plus the majority of NY summers are non-T14. By itself that sounds snobbish, but in light of all the other factors, it doesn't look great.Anonymous User wrote:Especially considering they cancelled their DC summer program almost without warning. 3+3+2+1+1+1+1= 12. There are 4 from Brooklyn, 3 from Fordham and 1 from Cardozo; That makes a total of 8 from non-T14.
12/20 = 60% Seems like a majority is from a t14. Cadwalader isn't sunk yet.

I know one from Penn/Duke/Michigan and it was the only biglaw offer he/she got. Not hating, just saying that might be a similar story with some of the others.Anonymous User wrote:Columbia: 3; Penn: 3; NYU: 2; Harvard: 1; CornellL 1; Duke: 1; Michigan: 1Anonymous User wrote:Plus the majority of NY summers are non-T14. Oh, I added in the WUSTL/Vandy for some reason. Still, Brooklyn is the MODAL SCHOOL and roughly half of these offices when combined are non-T14. Plus, you know, canceling all of D.C., partner defections left and right... it can't be GOOD vibes there, right?Anonymous User wrote:.

Re: Summer Classes 2017 Edition
Full Disclosure: Incoming Cad summer
Regarding Cad, their Charlotte office is growing. Went from 38 to 60 in under a year. That office does almost nothing but securities work and that practice is supposedly 30% of their revenue according to AmLaw (comes out to roughly $120 million). No doubt the defections look really bad and closing offices does sting but almost all the defections have come from the lit side. Maybe they just don't want to be a lit player anymore (if they ever really were). I know that some Cad insiders on this board have said that the partners paid for a McKinsey study and I wouldn't be surprised if they are working through the recommendations.

Cad is a shit hole. Their last chairman-elect (the lateral who they brought in and then left after 2 years, see http://abovethelaw.com/2015/01/musical- ... adwalader/) supposedly left because they weren't following the advice of the MCKinsey study

heard that sheppard nyc's cancelling their 2L summer program this year, any confirmation on this?
and if so, does this speak to their stability as a whole? or should incoming sheppard associates be worried

A firm that leveraged only having 20 SAs in its flagship office would scare me as a 2L. More often than not it's a good idea for firms in that position to lower their headcount but even considering their lateral history that is a steep drop.Anonymous User wrote:Having only 20 SAs in the NY office doesn't bode well for the firm's future... Re: Summer Classes 2017 Edition
This isn't that big of a drop from the last couple years. According to NALP they had 26 in 2014, 24 in 2015, and 29 in 2016. Looks like they took a few extra last year and are compensating this year. It's not that big of an office.Monochromatic Oeuvre wrote:A firm that leveraged only having 20 SAs in its flagship office would scare me as a 2L. they didn't tell me anything about a bonus during callback or offer but ke did basically promise 100% offers when i was down there.Anonymous User wrote:This was something the Houston office did in the first two summer classes after the office opened in 2014 to attract high quality candidates. My understanding is that they discontinued this beginning with this class.Anonymous User wrote:Is the K&E summer bonus only in Houston? I'm summering with another office and haven't heard of that.
and i'm not trying to be rude, but it's a bro-y office. fair play to them, they aren't hiding it at all. they were by far the most upfront in terms of office culture of anyplace I interviewed and it turned me off but the people i know headed there all fit that well.
