Is it true that NYC ADAs are allowed to carry concealed pistols?
guessing that was a joke, but you can get out of traffic violations and the like by flashing your ID, I've seen it occur
Same anon. Not a joke lol. I'll be at the Brooklyn DA next fall, but I'm from a state where getting a pistol permit is really easy. I heard getting one in NYC is nearly impossible.

Yeah, you aren't going to get one without a very compelling reason (i.e. a letter from Ken Thompson himself).

I know some NYC ADAs working felonies carry. Think it's because of the threats they may be getting. Also just because you can flash your ID/badge to get out of stuff, doesn't mean you should - regardless if you're a prosecutor, cop, etc. I know in the USAO's office here during AUSA orientation, the section chief specifically stated badging people will get you in trouble with the office.

Oh the other hand, if it's an emergency, sure. NYPD cops are great at giving lifts to prosecutors who need to get to a crime scene, courthouse, etc.

what the fuck is up with all these anons who think DAs office is a scene out of Law and Order with some Deathwish 5 thrown in.

The question originally posed was not "do you know any ADAs with concealed carry permits." The question was, can ADAs obtain concealed carry permits more easily than private citizens, due to their perceived status as ADAs. The fact that you claim to know "some" has no validity in this discussion.

Are you suggesting anon that ADAs who file permit applications don't need to show the same level of rigor as other citizens do? That's very wrong of you, as it suggests some amount of graft or corruption in the department, and you sounded pretty smug and superior about a traffic violation. so let me make sure I understand this they told you at "AUSA orientation" NOT to use your badge to get free stuff? Then you shouldn't advocate using the NYPD as a taxi service.

for prospective ADAs reading, the answer is still no. Do not ask for a concealed carry permit because you brought your own gun to work with you. Do not ask for one if you happen to be working felonies. And while we're at it LOL at ADAs "working felonies" getting concealed carry permits. Felonies? how many felonies do you think are committed in NYC? and how many ADAs are carrying firearms?

I'm not saying I know of any, but totally hypothetically, if I did know one, out of the hundreds of ADAs who do not have concealed carry permits, one that did would be more likely to work Rackets. (btw, you'd potentially be more likely to receive "threats" working Rackets) and he'd need to apply for one just like any private citizen and he'd be required to show cause, like everyone else.

Gun permits in NYC are public record and FOIA obtainable, listed by type of permit. Anyone is free to check it out and decide for yourself.

As for the use of IDs that you brought up in order to reference your AUSA orientation: Not that I was advocating it, but this has never happened, it was a joke. Strike from the record. Pull that stick out of your ass. PDs can stop seething

Bumping this because I found the discussion about "How to know which side is for you" interesting/thought-provoking and don't know if anyone else might also find it interesting/thought-provoking.
