Baylor is hell on earth.
You can't eat or drink in class.
You can't leave to go to the bathroom during class.
You have to stand up the entire class when you're on call.
You will get kicked out of class if you're not prepared.
There's some weird 3L mandatory "practical" skills thing that's hell on earth.
If you have bad grades, the school makes you take more classes before you can graduate.
Essentially this school has the largest inferiority complex of any school. The post by OP is only further proof.

This is obviously written by someone who didn't go there. I did. I had a partial scholarship, so I got in with less than 60k of debt. I have a 6-figure job, which I owe to the Baylor network--Baylor law people take care of their own, and they command a respectable position in the Texas legal market:

"However, our list of the 2015 Super Lawyer schools shows a slew of underdogs that have earned a place at the top, including the No. 1 school — Baylor University School of Law."
P.S. I am now debt free less than 3 years out.

Anon- mind going through those things line by line and telling us which ones aren't true? I've heard the stand up in class, can't eat or drink, and can't go to the bathroom things from multiple Baylor students in real life.

Baylor is hell on earth.
obviously I think this is false. Waco is by no means hip, but the cost of living is cheap as hell (my rent was 275 dollars a month). Also, if you are into sports, Baylor has stepped it up there. I wasnt big on it, but if you are, there's that.
You can't eat or drink in class.
I remember always bring in coffee in one of the baylor thermoses they gave us. During PC (Third year), you cant have a drink out in front of you. But, there are periodic breaks during PC class, which was when I would whip mine out (plus any snacks).
You can't leave to go to the bathroom during class.
Pretty sure you could leave to use the restroom during all classes. I dont really remember what the policy was for PC, but it was probably something along the lines of "dont, unless its an emergency." I mean, I dont recall anyone shitting their pants during PC. Plus there were periordic breaks during the class throughout the day, it wasn't an issue.
You have to stand up the entire class when you're on call.
During 1L and PC, when you are called on, you have to stand up. Sometimes multiple people are called on and all of y'all were standing up for a little bit. But once again, not really sure why this is a big deal. So what? You had to stand up for a few minutes. Aside from 1L and PC, you dont have to stand up when called on, but you also werent really truly "called on" in other classes outside of the standard 1L ones and the big bad PC
You will get kicked out of class if you're not prepared.
Yeah, that happened to one of my friends during property out first year, and another guy a few times during PC. For the property friend, that was a crazy moment in class. Everyone was like whhaaaaaat. But she had been unprepared multiple days in a row, and we were super hungover. At the time, it sucked, but on the positive side, that professor ended up becoming one of her good friends. The friend had some bar issues, and that professor went to Austin to standup for her. She gets Christmas cards from her now.
The PC guy who got kicked out, he dngaf. The professors tried to shame him into trying/doing the assignments, but it didn't work and they eventually gave up after 2 or 3 times of kicking him out.

PC is hard, but I feel like I was made into a lawyer after it. Its not for everyone though, so only go to Baylor if you want to do litigation. PC makes you into a litigator, but if you don't want to do that, you wont benefit from the program.
If you have bad grades, the school makes you take more classes before you can graduate.
I think the rule was if you had a 2.2 or lower, then you had to take electives that were more focused on learning stuff that was on the bar. You don't take additional classes. I think the reasoning was that if you have that kind of GPA, you need to take classes that are more covered on the bar to give you a better chance of passing. I don't remember anyone falling into that category, but I doubt that would be something that you would air to the public.

Yeah no I wouldn't do all that, especially considering the job opportunities for Baylor grads.
UT, UH, and SMU are really the only schools TX needs. Tech and Baylor might have a justifiable existence, but it's highly questionable IMO.
I wonder why people lied to me about the no bathroom and no food stuff? To my face even. Weird.

Actually it seems like there is a decent amount of pride surrounding the RIGOR so maybe they make up the food and bathroom stuff to try and grow the legend of Baylor? That's all I can think of.

Also, they told you fishing stories. They weren't outright lying, they just wanted to to know that they caught a big fucking fish (i.e. their law school was soooo hard).

Re: For all you Baylor haters out there
I just dont get the fuse. I mean, you probably shouldn't leave a deposition/an important meeting with a partner/the court room whenever you feel the need to use the restroom. You should probably wait for a break. You also probably shouldn't be chugging coffee non-stop during those times.BigZuck wrote:Actually it seems like there is a decent amount of pride surrounding the RIGOR so maybe they make up the food and bathroom stuff to try and grow the legend of Baylor? Is Baylor a cult? I think Baylor is a cult.
If it is a cult, please anonymize this post for me, mods, for I fear for my life at the hands of these brave Baylor soldiers.

I like that the anon poster who went to Baylor treats practice court as if it's perfectly normal.

Superlawyers is like this attorney ego thing they do for Texas.
http://attorneys.superlawyers.com/texas/
They have some kind of multi-step process to review who they select as Superlawyers. Then you get a mask, cape, and are commissioned to fight for truth, justice, and the American Way.

Pretty sure they do Super Lawyers for every state.

Like, if you look at criminal defense in Houston, Dick Deguerin is on page two and he doesn't have a picture. If this were like a real list he'd be all over that thing, toward or at the very top.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
