Shoebank.com is having a massive sale though, too. Merlot and bourbon park aves are showing up as $177—in my size at least. I think they're closing out those colors.Serett wrote:For the record, it's currently Fifth Avenues that are on sale, not Park Avenues. A number of belts are also on sale for $79, didn't pay much attention to which varieties.

Looks like it, I didn't even see those colors listed on AE's own site when poking around.SplitMyPants wrote:Shoebank.com is having a massive sale though, too. Those are totally acceptable, but personally I'd get the Park Avenues in black -- they are the best shoes you can buy and incredibly versatile since they can be worn with a tux or business casual.hairbear7 wrote:Is this what I should be getting? Depends on how formal the office is. There's only so many shades of dark brown. Plus, black makes matching belts way easier.Rahviveh wrote:Black is ugly. There's maybe 2-3 firms that are actually formal and it's not hard to match belts. Take your shoe and go to Macy's or dsw. You also don't need to stick to dark brown, hth.SplitMyPants wrote:Depends on how formal the office is. There's only so many shades of dark brown. Protip: Jos A Bank has outstanding belts that can be had for like $20. While everything else of theirs falls apart in like two weeks, the belts I own have lasted like 5 years and still look great.PeanutsNJam wrote:I saw 5th ave the other day on clearance for $200. As students, there's a student package where you can get the park aves (and a few others), a matching belt, and shoe trees for $350. This is always available so long as you've got a student ID.TheGoat18 wrote:Btw, Allen Edmonds is having a great sale right now. 150 off Park Ave's among other deals.
Belt costs 100 shoe tree 10 I think

Pick the color that matches your suit and the style that matches your swag.

I don't mean biz formal. I just mean more formal generally. If you stick with black or darker brown, you can get away with a bit more brogue—at least in more formal markets like ny. In texas or atlanta, just wear whatever goes well with your seersucker suit. They are way chiller.Rahviveh wrote:There's maybe 2-3 firms that are actually formal and it's not hard to match belts. What's the justification for spending $150 more for park over fifth? Honestly asking, I just wear Vans and Nikes

There isn't one: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... c&LH_BIN=1hairbear7 wrote:What's the justification for spending $150 more for park over fifth? Honestly asking, I just wear Vans and Nikes
Seriously though, it is slightly more versatile, but only insofar as I would not wear fifth aves to interview. Otherwise, they are interchangeable.

No but for real, they are an iconic shoe and neurotic people (most people in Biglaw) notice that kind of thing.

Not only class, but servicing. A pair of (arguably, tho slightly lesser) comparable cole haans may be ~$100 at nordstroms rack. But the leather in a summer or years worth of wear looks like shit, unless you hand recondition it.Anonymous User wrote:Class.hairbear7 wrote:What's the justification for spending $150 more for park over fifth? AE's, once you tear them up or wear through the sole, send it off and they'll resole & condition like-new. (up to about 3-4 times) These shoes can take 5+ years of punishment, or more if used in rotation.
edit: noticed the question was park over fifth.... because broguing (is that a word) is for peasants (see above class).

For life, I agree. For the office, there seems to be some disagreement: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... p?t=176663 (okay in 2012, maybe things have changed).PeanutsNJam wrote:I'd guess those heels with exclusive rights to that red color underneathWestWingWatcher wrote:What is/are the park aves of women's clothing?Anonymous User wrote:Class.hairbear7 wrote:What's the justification for spending $150 more for park over fifth? Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I've been thinking of taking up the role of resident grump. I feel like everyone I know is all "omg this summer is gonna be so fun!!!" while I'm over here looking at a 9-6 office job with a bunch of mandatory extra corporate back-slap events and wondering what the appeal is.
Is it just the money? Or is it part weird junior/midlevel Inception-type spin, where it's not that the actual SA itself is "fun", it's really just the last time you get the perks of biglaw without the crushing realities of the job, making the memory of the SA itself "fun"?
