NYU doesn't even let you put your grade on your resume

NU restricts for OCI, but not for mass mailing.

Yeah Penn strictly prohibits calculating your GPA or estimating your class rank.

How do I get recruiters to pay attention to my mass mail applications? I've targeted some midlaw firms that should have at least bitten back because I'm at a T14, but I haven't heard from anyone

Same here. Secondary market has not gotten back to me yet either. I think/hope that it is because they take their time w interviews more. Anyone with actual knowledge of secondary markets?

transfer with one pre-oci cb, lower t-14.

I've been mailing alumni partners, then tailoring cover letter to their region and practice group.

and also started practicing voodoo.

I'm literally sick of all this OCI stuff. I'm tired of working just as hard (or harder) than my classmates, and then seeing them get their jobs handed to them on a silver platter while I'm pretty much seen as incompetent by employers because of my GPA

I know how you feel. Also it's sad when everyone's deciding between what vault 10 firm to go to or which firms have the highest offer rates, and you're willing to pretty much take anything.

chin up guys. we're going to make it, and it's going to be even sweeter at the end knowing how many hoops we had to jump through.

Checking in. Just want to say that it is definitely worthwhile to network with any contacts you have at firms with which you are interviewing at OCI. I've met with two hiring committee attorneys at two of my OCI firms, and both promised to get in touch with my OCI interviewer and put in a good word for me in advance. I think one will go to bat for me especially hard. Fingers crossed.

I feel you. Fucking sick of law school in general, if you can get the highest grade in the class in a class you never attended and the lowest grade in your favorite class there's gotta be something wrong with the system.

If I get biglaw, I'm looking forward to not giving a fuck about school from now on. If I don't then I'm fucking outta here. Being far away from this world doesn't sound do bad to me honestly.

I feel like OCI is getting as mentally exhausting as getting good grades

I got a pre OCI screener from one of the top firms in a secondary market a few hours after I posted this. Feels sooooo good to finally get some good news!

Honestly, this is a terrible attitude. It's a bad thing to assume. People work hard for their grades too. Yea it might be a crapshoot in some ways, but it's not like they didn't study. If those same people are okay/good at interviewing then its not like those jobs were just "handed to them on a silver platter."

Not trying to knock you down, just saying focus on what you need to do and get it done. I'm right there with you about hustling and its paying off. You just gotta keep going at it and hope for the best. If you're a people's person then don't worry about it as much. Yea massmailing might not work out, but OCI should be fine if you were smart/conservative with bids and can carry a conversation.

I'm near the bottom of my class and I've gotten over 50% of my screeners (10-13) to turn into callbacks. Still got some screeners left too. Just keep grinding. It's far from over.

Best of luck

Not what I was saying at all, obviously people with good grades in law school work hard. Everyone in law school works hard. It just sucks to also work super hard, and then have to work 50x harder to get a job than my classmates because a couple professors didn't like my exam.

Gotcha, I take it back. But hey, we're all in this boat together and the offers we'll get will be that much sweeter at the end. We just gotta keep on hustlin. Gluck buddy!

Congrats on your callbacks! How did you go about addressing your grades during screeners?

I barely had to address my grades in my screeners. I think I only really did for one firm. When I had to address them, I talked about my improvements after a semester and my journal acceptance (not LR).

Lower T-14 school, market NYC.

At least for preselect interviews it doesn't really make sense for the firm to ask about grades I feel. The lottery ones could be more of a wildcard, but I would do what the above anon said and tout things like writing skills

Halfway through OCI with no callbacks. The depression is real.

Checking in. I'm .2 below median at MVP, journal (not LR), and 4 years work experience in the industry I want to practice in. I've gone through 20 screeners with one CB to show for it. I have 13 more to go, but I'm not holding my breath. I have an offer from a mid-sized to return next summer and a CB from networking in a secondary market I'm not really interested in. But I've had some success mass-mailing in a tough secondary market I really want because of ties (6 upcoming phone/video screeners) so there's that. Just keep hustling and working; it'll eventually pay off.

Did you list your GPA on the résumé you handed to interviewers during your screeners?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
