Re: 2015 University of Virginia OGI Thread
On the multiple position openings within the same firm: When I did it, they all got routed through the same place and the same interviewer(s) did all the interviews/you could only get 1 interview with a given firm. Using multiple bids for this would be a waste, but truthfully, once you get passed 20, it doesn't really matter anyway. You might just want to throw the other ones passed 50 if you'd like to give the firm a heads up you're interested in more than 1 group.

It's definitely a multi discipline group. I was just shocked a law student had no idea what antitrust was. I mean, don't they go over the Sherman Act in high school?

Does anybody know if it's ok to use half of my major memo for my writing sample? Do firms prefer a brief to a memo? I had edited it for 1L job applications and haven't had the chance to do the same for my brief. I also don't have anything long enough from the summer.

Whichever is your better piece of writing. Keep it to around 10 pages though - so maybe one section of the memo (if it was anything like mine).cornerstone wrote:Does anybody know if it's ok to use half of my major memo for my writing sample? So how many bids will really mean anything? I have zero motivation to write cover letters once I get down to the 40s

Just blanket some firms that don't require cover letters - I'm sure you can find 10+monsterman wrote:So how many bids will really mean anything? I have zero motivation to write cover letters once I get down to the 40s

Well if you want a full schedule of 23, that’s roughly half your bids so each firm is essentially a 50-50 shot of being an interview. Seems like that is worth the extra time you’d take to write more letters...monsterman wrote:So how many bids will really mean anything? For reference, most people I know who has 23 had interviews all over their bid list. Preselects will come from anywhere in the list and that’s the first round...

3.15. Screwed up. Only NE ties. No WE. Bidding only NY firms. Should I mass mail NJ firms too? Chances? What firms would I have the best chance at?

I don't have insight on mass mailing but check the firm data KDon sent--there are some Band 2 and 3 firms in NY and elsewhere that don't get that many more bids than they have interview slots. It'd probably make sense to bid those and put all your effort into blowing them away during the screener.Anonymous User wrote:3.15. Screwed up. Only NE ties. No WE. Bidding only NY firms. +1. Also get your networking on, there's still plenty of time.rhododactylos wrote:I don't have insight on mass mailing but check the firm data KDon sent--there are some Band 2 and 3 firms in NY and elsewhere that don't get that many more bids than they have interview slots. +1. Also, you should mass mail firms in basically every market. Since you’re below median you should really be applying everywhere. If you limit yourself to one or two markets you are more likely to strike out.cornerstone wrote:+1. Not sure how true this is for non-NY markets, but at least in NY the vast majority of firms did not require a cover letter. Just FYI for those worrying about cover letters.

That's our class! According to KDon we display "a rare combination of diligence and procrastination unrivaled by prior classes."North wrote:Started the thread too late.Yardbird wrote:This thread is scary quiet compared to last year.

(there's a reason my decision basically came down to NYU vs UVA...)

Yeah probably on Saturday it'll kick up, I guess I'm just curious if people are doing early CBs and going to receptions and whatnot... Re: 2015 University of Virginia OGI Thread
I think this is very region specific, because my target market is far from Virginia and firms probably figure it's cheaper to just have me come in while I'm around, but I have 3 callbacks so far. I only did one reception, but I called alumni pretty much every day, following the networking/hustling guide in the stickied thread here. I actually have my first one tomorrow and I'm a bit freaked since I haven't even had a single screener yet. Did a lot of mock interviewing though.McGruff wrote:Yeah probably on Saturday it'll kick up, I guess I'm just curious if people are doing early CBs and going to receptions and whatnot...
