also weird selective quoting, i hope you realize that was a reply to another poster and not the thrust of my argument/response to your op

I didn't think you were calling out the OP. I just figured it's worth pointing out that for the time being we don't have anything better. I don't see why anyone would get so fired up over a list like this.Brut wrote:also weird selective quoting, i hope you realize that was a reply to another poster and not the thrust of my argument/response to your op

but tbh, i actually do think there are problems with them putting this together under the banner "the go-to law schools", i think it encourages a type of thinking that i take issue with, but i just don't care enough to go another round on this, at least tonight

What the hell is going on in this thread? Can we focus on what's really important here like Michigan's TTT numbers . . . again?

I nearly put this in the OP but I figured "Nah DF will be here in no time to properly shit on Michigan."cookiejar1 wrote:What the hell is going on in this thread? Can we focus on what's really important here like Michigan's TTT numbers . . . again?

http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=226198
last year mich was at 41.25% on go to, and ended up with 57.1% bl+fc (38.4% higher)
and gulc was at 37.3% on go to, 46.5% bl+fc (24.6% higher)
this is nothing but a wild, 100% speculative prediction
but if the difference between mich's go to and bl+fc were consistent year to year (which obviously isn't the case), their 39.23% would land them at 54.3% bl+fc this year
and gulc's 38.24% ends up at 47.6% bl+fc

I mean, at this point I'm doing it because you're sperging out about it.Brut wrote:i just don't get the white knighting, especially since you find this stuff "minor" and "insignificant"Jason Taverner wrote:stuff
if it's so insignificant to you, why defend it to the end of the earth?
my point (that this is a useless, incomplete, and potentially misleading ranking (as all national rankings of law schools are)) hasn't been challenged, except by the argument that it wasn't intended to be a ranking a la USNWR, which is bullshit because (a) the problem arises in how 0Ls use it, not in what it's intended for, and (b) there's no other legitimate purpose for putting it in a ranking form and calling it a "ranking" with "ranks", than to try to compete with usnwr, which is widely watched by prospective students, generating considerable traffic. if they were truly just interested in sharing the raw data and had no interest in being perceived as a law school ranking, why call it "the go to law schools", why refer to it as a "ranking", why assign each school a "rank", why include the tagline "ranking the go-to schools". this completely undermines the argument that it's not intended to be relied on as a measurement of what schools students should go to.
Doesn't NLJ/ALM rank and list many things? Like, maybe you're too busy getting angry, but the NLJ 250 is just the 250 largest firms, right? They might even put them in descending numerical order, such that number one is that titan for the ages, DLA Piper. Am Law figures are from the same organization, so are you going to decry them for publishing PPP and profitability figures without having greater context. What if someone sees Cahill's no. 2 ranking in profitability and assumes that Cahill is the second best law firm?
You can't stop people from drawing poor conclusions from statistics. This is just data publishing. It's hilarious that you're so worked up about it. I just want you to say "yes Jason, I know I'm just arguing about fine nuances in biglaw employment statistic reporting" acknowledge that it's a funny thing to get worked up about, and carry on.

lol let it go already you shill
you made a typically stupid argument, i refuted it, everyone has moved on but you
idk if it's some austim-induced paraphilia for useless rankings or if you're just sore about being proven wrong on basically every single point you made itt, but you're starting to come across as more desperate than stupid
move on already you dip

also, your increasingly desperate white knighting of nlj is one of the funniest things i've seen on tls, and i've been here for a while
what kind of cape do you wear when you log on to tls to furiously defend the honor of your precious rankings

My cape is emblazoned with "AMERICAN LAWYER MEDIA." It is constructed of white velvet, with crimson felt lettering.
Each time someone posts about an ALM subsidiary on TLS, I get a dollar. It's part of my performance pay.
You're right, I do despair, because I worry about the future of my corporate TLS sponsor. Originally, I was just on TLS as part of our Ken monitoring program for Real Estate Forum. Lately we've decided to branch out and we're testing the waters with new, exciting products, like alternative law school rankings.
Given that we already give you the NLJ Go-To schools, what do you think about us expanding to other ranking programs. We've thought about the Delaware Law Weekly ranking of schools for placement into the biggest and best DE firms. With USNews moving into law firm rankings, we really want to hit them hard on their home turf.
You're out of your element here, Brut. I have a corporate sponsorship for my posting. What do you have?

look, everyone moved on when you swung back into the thread to call me a sperg
no one cares about this, especially since you're not engaging me on anything substantive
you seem to have some chip on your shoulder about this, but it's time to let this go

Yes Brut, I'm the one swinging and missing in this thread. Please Brut, have mercy!
Also, I'd appreciate it if you'd mention an ALM subsidiary when you respond to me. A fella has got to eat.
