I agree it's silly to hold onto offers or go on CBs if you aren't going to take them, but it's probably not going to make a big difference for others.

Huh? An enormous risk of what? Of having someone saying no and leaving you in the exact same position you were in before you asked the question? I was joking before with the beta thing, but if you seriously think asking for an extension because you're still legitimately weighing your options is a "huge risk" you should actually consider growing a pair before starting work. You'll be eaten alive if you're that scared of talking to people.Anonymous User wrote:Asking for an extension for your only offer is an enormous risk.KidStuddi wrote:If this person is too much of a pussy to ask for an extension they deserve to be at a beta firm. And this is coming from someone who currently has 0 offers and is still waiting to hear from places. Instead of worrying about what you can't control focus on your job hustle.

Crazier things have happened than an offer getting rescinded for asking for an extension. Is that very likely? No. But the downside of that is way too big compared to the relatively small upside of the firms I'm waiting on (particularly given the relatively small chance of an offer given how long it's been since the callbacks). Also, it's probably not going to end up being an issue for me (still about two weeks on the offer).

I just wanna clarify something. if a firm (nyc) with a class size in the teens has already extended offers to candidates, does that typically mean that a rejection is coming since firms offer more students than they expect to accept.

If you haven't been rejected, it's possible you're on a list of candidates to be offered should the firm not have enough acceptances. Last year, I went to an offer dinner. Didn't like the firm, & the next day told them I wouldn't be accepting. Later on I heard someone else at my school got an offer from the firm hours later. This was mid-September.Anonymous User wrote:I just wanna clarify something. if a firm (nyc) with a class size in the teens has already extended offers to candidates, does that typically mean that a rejection is coming since firms offer more students than they expect to accept.

If you legitimately need more time to make up your mind, please do take it--this is a serious decision that shouldn't be taken lightly. However, if you definitely know where you want to go for the sumer and are just sitting on your other offers until the days run out just for the sake of doing so, then you're just a jerk to everyone involved.
Also, I'm not going to out people, but anon is not license to be rude.
