Also, has anyone else received callbacks via email? I have gotten one that way, so now I'm doing a double take every time I see an email from a firm.

Don't get the wrong idea about the "alternate list", if a firm even has one. Firms give out more callbacks then they expect to get accepted based on past data. Only if significantly more are rejected than they projected do they dip back into the pool. It's not like for every callback that is turned down they call someone else

Not if they forsaw a high percentage of VLR turning them down. Firms rarely if ever have a uva quota. They will have a ceiling but not a floor. For example, skadden DC gives out about 15 callbacks but has not had a uva in two years. They are just not willing to dip down just to get uva students
