Re: Where I got no offered
Anyone have any details on these no-offers? I got a CB to Finnegan and am interested, but generally speaking these no-offers scare me...especially for Patent Prosecution, where work product is not only your ability to get things done, but your technical ability as well.Anonymous User wrote:I posted this. It sounds like the situation may have improved since then, but see http://abovethelaw.com/2009/08/nationwi ... lewis-d-c/

Schulte, Roth & Zabel NY had one no-offer this summer. I wasn't there but I got this information directly from multiple people who were. Apparently this was based on not completing multiple assignments and then lying on a self-eval. Usually SRZ offers everyone.

Re: Where I got no offered
Do you mean the stuff like how many hours did you work per week? Were these even for them? It's hard to ballpark a # just on your own. Also, at least 25% of the time are social events so nobody really knows to include it or not. I also don't get the incentive to lie. If they did read it, it'd be next to your work product so it's prob a mistake to overestimate your time even if you were allowed to lie.mephistopheles wrote:lying on a self-eval?Anonymous User wrote:Schulte, Roth & Zabel NY had one no-offer this summer. K&L Gates no-offered in multiple offices, and I know from my office it wasn't performance issues of the one of the summers that was an issue. I got an offer, but I was pretty mad on behalf of the no-offered summers.

I was worried about this from them. They did the same thing with the c/o 2014.Anonymous User wrote:K&L Gates no-offered in multiple offices, and I know from my office it wasn't performance issues of the one of the summers that was an issue. Do you have any idea how the Pittsburgh office fared? I have friends there and that is worrying.

Sorry, unfortunately I don't have any information about that office, I was referring to NC and TX. Maybe since it's the flagship office they fared a little better.cdelgado wrote:I was worried about this from them. Saw on Vault that Bracewell threw out a bunch of no-offers. Unless that rate is wrong/misleading, any info as to why? I think that's likely just their NY office but unsure

Re: Where I got no offered
I know a few of the Bracewell NY SA's pretty well. Can't imagine there'd be fit or work issues. Most of the fit issues leading to no offers are just reflections of how bad and discriminatory law firms are at recruiting, and how it becomes an acting showcase more than anything else with firms choosing people who can best play their stereotypical fit for 20 minutes. Then it becomes evident some people are not what they seemed to be in 20 rehearsed minutes. It's very easy to hide being an asshole or being psycho for an interview with the same q's you've gotten 100 times before. Don't know about my friends' acting skills, but know that they'd be a pleasure to work with. From what I know about Bracewell, I doubt they will ever recover from pre-2008 so this is probably the new reality from them. They're very dependent on big business.

This is hearsay, but I was told there are 2 confirmed no-offers so far, with possibly 2 more to comeAnonymous User wrote:How did K&L Gates NY do?Anonymous User wrote:Sorry, unfortunately I don't have any information about that office, I was referring to NC and TX. Things are finally turning the corner in this thread, but I petition to change the name to something more in line with the goal of the thread, like "Out the firms that no-offer because you like to help others sometimes" or something

Re: Where I got no offered
From the 23 SAs at the Pittsburgh office I've heard of 3 people getting offers so far and 4 people getting no-offered. None of those that didn't get offers had any immediately apparent red flags from what I saw.Anonymous User wrote:Sorry, unfortunately I don't have any information about that office, I was referring to NC and TX. Re: Where I got no offered
The K&L Gates no-offer news is terrible. They seem to not care about their offer rates.
FWIW, if any 2Ls are reading this thread and considering K&L, I will say that their Pittsburgh office no-offered 3/13 last year. The reason given was "serious work product issues." Also, a significant number of the 10/13 declined to accept the offer. I do not remember the exact numbers, but that in and of itself is surprising.
Part of me wonders if it is because K&L's litigation department is slowing down while corporate is getting hot, and a majority of summers decided to go the litigation route.

Re: Where I got no offered
One of the 10* has a clerkship in their hometown, which isn't close to Pittsburgh. At least for this person, I don't think K&L had much to do with it.Anonymous User wrote:The K&L Gates no-offer news is terrible. They seem to not care about their offer rates.

*Edit: I think I was told the person was one of the 10 who got offers. I could be mistaken, though.
