Unknown, but I'd wager not; this big class seems to compensatory for their lack of hiring during 2013-2014.Anonymous User wrote:they almost definitely won't hire as much for the year after right?Anonymous User wrote:Update on the unknown that is the Kings County DA's Office: according to their website as of today, July 20th, the office will be hiring 60-70 ADA's this cycle (LinkRemoved) (see "Graduating Law Students" under the Hiring Programs section).

Re: District Attorney's Offices 2015
Forget about Cook County. I'm not even sure they hired ANYONE for c/o 2014, and the fact that they take three months after the end of their final-round interviews (OOS T14, final interview Feb 2014) to make a decision (rejection by letter signed with a stamp, late May 2014) fucks a ton of people. If you nonetheless apply there, and your backup plan does not happen to also be in Illinois, for the love of god sign up for some other state's bar during the relevant registration period. Do not wait until you hear from CCSAO.
Also, I've been reliably informed that instead of toilet paper there are just little stacks of copies of Brady v. Maryland in each stall.

Hmmm, sounds like that would help me in some of these interviews.Anonymous User wrote: Also, I've been reliably informed that instead of toilet paper there are just little stacks of copies of Brady v. Maryland in each stall.
By the way, if you do NOT attend a Queens DA OCI school, they are accepting applications now.

Re: District Attorney's Offices 2015
Unfortunately this seems to be the case for virtually every DA's office in this country. It's admirable that an above poster said Brady is a big part of life as an ADA. Maybe that's true in NY, where there's such thing as a "witness list" and "discovery." Most places, it's trial by ambush.Anonymous User wrote:Also, I've been reliably informed that instead of toilet paper there are just little stacks of copies of Brady v. Maryland in each stall.

Re: District Attorney's Offices 2015
I have interviews with Bronx and Nassau a week from Tuesday (through a joint interview program with a few schools). I feel like I'm going to throw up.
I'm coming from a long distance away, and those were the only 2 counties who participate in this program, but I know that there's no way I could get an interview so early with anyone else. I'm worried if I get call-backs and then get anything with other counties, I'm not going to be able to travel that distance enough times during the semester. Anyone know if the accommodate that? Or just say "out-of-state? SOL."

There's a poster on page 2 of this thread that might be able to help you out. He did interviews in the NYC offices, but came from California.Anonymous User wrote:I have interviews with Bronx and Nassau a week from Tuesday (through a joint interview program with a few schools). Was in same position last year, I can relate. I was successful. PM me if you have specific questions. I was from VERY far away last year, and may have some answers.Anonymous User wrote:I have interviews with Bronx and Nassau a week from Tuesday (through a joint interview program with a few schools). Top 10% Percent of a T-14 here. No idea what the recruitment process at the various DA offices are like but would I be competitive for New York County or do most of those positions go to people with prior internships there?

what time of writing sample should we use? does it matter if it is criminal law related at all? or do they not even look at them?

Disclaimer: I am currently in undergrad. I am very unaware of TLS rules, so if I am not allowed to post in this thread with this question, please show mercy.
I am very interested in being an ADA in the future, and I'm currently pursuing an internship in the State Attorney General's office. Will that internship, or other political connections at the state level, be useful at all in the job hunt?

It helps if it is criminal law related, but not necessary. Out of the 10+ interviews I did (multiple interviews from same office), I think I was only asked about it three times, and twice was from the same office.
Although, it varies. I have friends who interviewed at a NYC office and it was a criminal procedure related appellate brief they had written for class. The interviewing attorney discussed nothing BUT the substance of the writing sample with them.

Re: District Attorney's Offices 2015
Internships and connections are always useful. State AG's offices don't always hire out of law school. Many require attorneys to have a few years of experience. But the State AG's office internship helps demonstrates your interest in prosecution and thus helps you get prosecutor internships during law school. If you in fact still want to be an ADA by the time you are in law school, focus on getting a job at city/county prosecutor's office that hires entry level lawyers. (Most do) Also, be aware that in some states hiring at DAs offices doesnt occur until after you have passed the bar exam.SweetTort wrote:Disclaimer: I am currently in undergrad. Prior internships help. Grades and law school are marginally useful, but really dont cut it. They want to see a demonstrated interested in criminal prosecution and public service. All DA's offices want that, including NY CountyAnonymous User wrote:Top 10% Percent of a T-14 here. I totally agree, but I think NY County gives the most weight (which could still just not be very much) to grades/school.

Re: District Attorney's Offices 2015
Snagged a first round interview with the Massachusetts Middlesex D.A. set for late next month. Is anyone else out there attempting to get a position as an ADA in Middlesex? I'm interested to know what the competition is like for this office. And are interviews here pretty standard as far as D.A. interviews go? Any information on the Middlesex or Suffolk County application process is greatly appreciated!
For the record my stats are as follows:
1L summer judicial intern
2L research assistant
2L summer law clerk
3L year-long defense clinic
3.2 GPA
URM

OCI for Middlesex, yes. Suffolk will be regular pool this October. I'm sorry if that was not clear; I have an interview with Middlesex via OCI. I will apply to Suffolk in the regular, non-OCI applicant pool this October when they begin accepting applications.Anonymous User wrote:you already have an interview from suffolk?Anonymous User wrote:OCI for Middlesex, yes. Congrats on the interview!
That said, the applications just opened for the NYC DA's offices (for the most part), and so far have Manhattan and Brooklyn in. Working on Queens and the Bronx (is anyone else having trouble filling out the Bronx paper application on their computer? I think I may just have to handwrite it...UGH).

Last December, I purchased Adobe PDF Exporter. It's $20, but it converts any PDF application to docx with few hitches. Some of the formatting does get wonky, but overall, it's better than handwriting.Anonymous User wrote:Congrats on the interview!

Hey we're twinsies in that regard. I interned at Manhattan my 1L year, and just submitted my application. As you probably know, we still get the guaranteed first round interview because of the summer, and I'm hoping to get that scheduled soon.Anonymous User wrote:Good luck to everyone applying!
