I'm also interested in knowing this. I'm guessing they prefer you bring all undergrad and graduate transcripts along to the interview, but do they ask for it when you're bidding?Anonymous User wrote:do you include your undergrad transcript when you bid?

Re: Loyola PLIP 2014 Thread - Strategies?
I haven't looked extensively this year, but at least last year, each firm provided info on exactly what material they wanted submitted and whether or not they wanted one bid per firm for multiple offices or a different bid for each office. Most firms only wanted your resume at this stage, but a handful did want more. I did make sure to have fresh copies of my resume, law transcript, UG transcript, and writing sample on hand during the program itself just in case interviewers asked for it.Anonymous User wrote:I'm also interested in knowing this. Thanks for the input! Yeah, my CS degree is from an ABET accredited school so it's good to go under Cat. A.Anonymous User wrote:I think if you want a biglaw litigation gig you could definitely pull it off with those stats. Some boutiques do litigation as well, and you'd be a great candidate for those firms. You might not be patent bar eligible because of the weird rules with CS degrees, so that will affect your eligibility for prosecution positions (unless you're willing to qualify under category B). If you are eligible and want to do pros, you could easily find a prosecution gig, although most of these are at boutiques and many pay less than market rate.lhanvt13 wrote:oh jeebus, school sent out emails about bidding. IT'S ALMOST HERE.
Also, as the poster above, what should my bidding strategy be? Any recommendations welcome.
Me:
T1
just inside 30%
BS in CS
K-JD (related internship works for summers)
Undergrad: top 10 engineering school?? I think?

oh god I have no idea how to choose these firms...

Any rising 3Ls feel like there are less options this year compared to last?

There is a shockingly decreased amount of employers on there.

I'm curious about how many employers there are for a bio major? I'll be participating next year and I'm just curious. Are we talking 20? 60? More/less? Thanks in advance!

You bid with only fall available. You are then preselected and then hand an updates resume with your new GPA at the Fairlhanvt13 wrote:so they take in to account both fall and spring grades yes?

Re: Loyola PLIP 2014 Thread - Strategies?
I'm confused by the class rank requirement for some of the postings. Obviously, top 25% at a T2 is different than top 25% at a T-14. Should we take into account these differences when submitting our bid? Or is the system already somehow customized for the school we go to..

Re: Loyola PLIP 2014 Thread - Strategies?
How do you know what firms are reaches, targets, etc.? Where can we get more GPA or other resume requirement information?
Obviously some firms are going to be reaches for almost everyone but since PLIP candidates are more diverse, it's hard figuring out what are my personal targets and reaches.
T7 law school, Top 30%
Bio Background- 3.0-3.2 GPA
Very little WE
No Grad Degree
My law school grades are pretty decent but everything else is weak. I'm not sure what I should be targeting.

Re: Loyola PLIP 2014 Thread - Strategies?
Might have better luck targeting patent lit firms/jobs? No grad degree in bio will hurt you a lot, even being at a T7. Bio PhDs from most T50s will be seen as far more desirable for patent prosecution than a T7 with only a bachelors due to the technical expertise required. You still have a shot at patent prosecution, but it will be very tough. Grad degrees don't matter for patent lit though and a T7 school would help a lot in getting those competitive positions. I'd focus on getting one of those if I were you. Good luck!Anonymous User wrote:How do you know what firms are reaches, targets, etc.? I'm a BSEE at a TTT school (CA), top 20%, passed the patent bar, only WE I'll have is working at a patent clinic this coming 1L summer. Therefore, I'm guessing I should use all 32 bids on smaller boutiques/firms that only do prosecution. Litigation/general practice firms seem to be out of the question considering my law school rank.
One question: Should I put my 3.1 UGPA on my resume? I'm guessing yes since it's above a 3.0 and would be a red flag to boutiques if I left it off.
Here is my background:
BSCS, TTT/TTTT, top 10% (at the time of Loyola), passed the patent bar, K-JD but did some internships during undergrad
At PLIP, I had 29 PS/ 20 CB / 12 Offers out of 17 CB's (I only did 17 CB's due to time constraints)
PLIP was a fantastic experience! One of the highlights of my law school career.
I only applied to a couple smaller firms, but the majority were large firms in NY/DC/TX/Seattle. Also, about 80% of the firms that I applied to were lit firms, and about 75% of my offers were from firms in V100's.
First, imho, I think that law students put more of an emphasis on school rank than the majority of employers. When interviewing, this was the order that employers seemed to prioritize my information:
1. Degree
2. Patent bar/Desire to do patent lit
3. Personality
4. Internships
5. Law School
The most attention my law school got was "Oh, you go to X. How do you like law school?" If I were you, I would own it, move on, and apply to the firms that you would love to be at. Don't limit yourself. This is the opportunity of a lifetime. For both litigation and prosecution, your undergrad degree is the biggest deal of all (I'm sure you've heard that EE/CS is in massive demand, which is totally true). Also, I cannot overemphasize how important personality is. I've had firms tell me that they would rather work with someone who is personable and is from a lower-tiered school than a typical obnoxious law student from a higher-tiered school.
Good luck! Feel free to ask questions.

were your callbacks distributed throughout cities or were they more tied to your geographic ties?
did you apply to "top prestige" firms or did you go the more safer route?
