So if you were an alternate is that basically the same thing as a preselect in the sense that the firm picked you or can you also be slotted as an alternate through the lottery?

Re: 2013 Texas OCI (+all Texas firms)
Based on the OCI packet ("If a student is listed as an alternate for an employer, he or she may be scheduled with that employer if space opens up on the employer’s schedule . . . . If you are selected by an employer as an alternate, your status will not change to preselect if you are scheduled for the interview") it seems that alternate relates solely to preselect, not to lottery.blackmooncreeping wrote:So if you were an alternate is that basically the same thing as a preselect in the sense that the firm picked you or can you also be slotted as an alternate through the lottery?

It's basically the same as a preselect, except there were a number of people that they were more interested in than you.blackmooncreeping wrote:So if you were an alternate is that basically the same thing as a preselect in the sense that the firm picked you or can you also be slotted as an alternate through the lottery?

SMU checking in here. Like last year, probably good to open the lines of communication on callbacks and offers from the Texas firms.

Checking in. Are people ready? I am not. Still need to dry clean suits, buy new pumps, get a haircut, get a manicure....and oh yeah....actually prep for interviews.

My clothes are ready, but nothing else yet. Only just finished my internship so now I'll have time to devote to prepping. Luckily, as a guy, I don't have to worry about the manicure.

I've done a bit of prep and had a mock interview. It was almost worthless except to help with the nerves. Oh well.emkay625 wrote:Checking in. Are people ready? I am not. Still need to dry clean suits, buy new pumps, get a haircut, get a manicure....and oh yeah....actually prep for interviews.

Re: 2013 Texas OCI (+all Texas firms)
This may have been addressed already but I got 7 offers last year during OCI, three of which were from lottery interviews. I ended up accepting at two of the top TX firms (both are listed in the first post on this thread), both of which I was a lottery interview for, and I have job offers for both of them. A lottery spot is not a throwaway and should not be treated as such!blackmooncreeping wrote:
Edit: Also, if you have a lottery awarded interview vs. a preselect is it safe to assume that chances are basically zero for a cb?

Latham is interviewing for like 20 offices though, the number of spots could just related to that.Anonymous User wrote:I'm also curious about second round interview awards. Is it common or rare to get more interviews from firms that didn't select you (either pre-select or alternate) during the first round?
And yeah... I was really excited to get an interview with Latham Watkins... then I realized they had like 130 interview spots to fill or something ridiculous like that. Not so excited anymore.

Re: 2013 Texas OCI (+all Texas firms)
This is your chance to kill it with Patton Boggs. My understanding (senior-level associate told me this) is that they make decisions on who will get CBs tonight (before interviews - edit: assuming the cocktail is the night before interviews like it was last year), after the cocktail. Kill it at the cocktail and you'll have a good shot at a CB, especially if your grades etc. line up.Anonymous User wrote:Patton boggs reception tonight for everyone

So anyone know what the deal is with the JW reception? Talked to someone who said (s)he was going to JW after. Should I assume ding? Felt like that was maybe my best interview today.Anonymous User wrote:Strassburger Price is also tonight.Anonymous User wrote:Receptions:Anonymous User wrote:Good luck today everyone
