haha, that's what I figured. I've seen people ask elsewhere, so I wanted to make sure.

I am so not a fan of my career services person. They are totally useless, I literally get more helpful advice from older NU TLS-ers.

I wonder if we have the same person. Mine is super hit or miss. She was incredibly useless to a friend this morning and helpful to me this afternoon. I guess she had her coffee.

Reaffirmation of the uselessness of my CS person- I've lined up an info meeting with a partner from a firm in Chicago. I emailed/called/met with my CS adviser about it and asked for advice multiple times and every time they were like "What, they have a Chicago office? It must be new, I had no idea that firm even had a Chicago office and they're not coming to OCI..."

I just read through the list of OCI attendees on Symplicity...they're coming to OCI exclusively to hire for the Chicago office

That story doesn't even sound plausible but I'll take your word for it. Wow, OCS has gotten much worse in the last few years, not that they were special to begin with.

I wish I was joking. TBF the firm's Chicago office IS relatively new, but you would think that staff members of NU's OCS would at least know what firms are coming to their own OCI... :\ Or, you know, double check or do some research once they hear of a new Chicago office opening up. It would make more sense if the Chicago office was just one among like 5 or 6 but this firm is literally ONLY interviewing for their Chicago office at OCI.

The 10-20% group would actually be the top 11% of people who aren't in the top 10%, because math.

Hi, checking in. I guess, "wasteland" means really bad, right?. Contacted my advisor for the first time since early spring, and couldn't get any feedback about OCS read on 2L. Wondering if things are worst than last year.

I have no way of knowing how it stacks up to last year, but it adds more credence to the idea that if you strike out or get no-offered you're in a world of hurt.

Last year seemed tough in Chicago but people did all right in NYC and West Coast. I think c/o 2014 ended up with >50% getting a firm job out of OCI/recruiting season.

Okay, this may be dumb: where do we find the historic OCI firm GPA cutoffs/breakdown? I think I have poked into every corner of Symplicity and CareerSpace and am probably missing some glaring CLICK HERE, IDIOT link. Help me find it?

CSO said the updated version should be up tonight or early tomorrow. Even with the tendency of people to exaggerate how far along they are, hopefully it should be out by end of the week.

My guess is yes, and if you are interested in lit. apply for them clerkships. I am really hoping I do not need to deal with OCI this year.

Still nothing on historic GPA cutoffs. Am I looking in the right place? Under Resources > Document Library? So far, all I see is a PDF list of the 2012 participating employers. Don't the OCS folks know how critical this info is, along with the number of slots?

That's where I have been looking too, I suppose I was just too optimistic

I'm banging out some cover letters for the SF IP job fair (bidding closes tomorrow) and I'm wondering: is there any downside to writing cover letters for a full-service law firm attending SFIPLA like IP is your be-all/end-all dream job, but then interviewing with them at OCI for non-IP departments?

Come OCI time, is a firm going to look up the cover letter I sent them for SFIPLA and think "hmmm, she was all gung-ho about IP in July, but now she says she likes land use and employment law" and ding me?
