Though it is probably unlikely to result in career suicide or even them remembering you, there's absolutely no benefit to writing a letter or email except to make yourself feel better or delude yourself into believing you have some control over the situation. And as people are telling you ITT you shouldn't feel bad since this happens a lot, and you have no chance of changing things anyway.
