Re: Easiest bar exams
Just took the Louisiana bar. I can't imagine many other bars being more difficult than that one. 21 and a half hours and basically all essay with a shit ton of Louisiana specific stuff.

Re: Easiest bar exams
Louisiana's overall bar pass rate was about 58% in 2013--which is quite low. The pass rate rose to 62% in 2014. Because Louisiana does not use the UBE or MBE it wasn't included in the list of most difficult to easiest state bar exams. LSU law grads pass at a much higher rate, however. Tulane & Loyola grads also beat the state average.

Re: Easiest bar exams
When ranked by overall pass rate for first time test takers, the highest (although not necessarily the easiest) are:
1) New Mexico 88%
2) Mississippi & Missouri & Utah 87%
5) Connecticut & Kansas & New Hampshire 86%
Illinois 85%
9) Oklahoma & Iowa & Minnesota 84%
12) West Virginia 82%
13) Massachusetts & Ohio & Wisconsin & Kentucky & Pennsylvania 81%
18) Washington & Georgia 80%
20) Indiana 79%
Again, this is the overall 2014 pass rate for first time test takers only. First time bar pass rates are higher than overall state bar pass rates.
Also, percentage of first time test takers is misleading with respect to easiest bar exam because, for example, Utah's UBE passing score is 270 whereas Missouri's is only 260 yet both show an overall pass rate of 87% for first time test takers. New York, a new UBE state, doesn't appear among the top twenty highest pass rate, yet their UBE passing score is 266. Additionally, some states have low first time bar passage rates since they permit graduates of non-ABA accredited law schools to sit for their exam.

Re: Easiest bar exams
OP: Based on a blend of both charts, Connecticut, Illinois, New Mexico & Missouri appear to be good options for likelihood of success with minimal preparation. (Missouri is the only UBE jurisdiction among these four states.)

Re: Easiest bar exams
New York isn't a UBE state yet, so of course they wouldn't appear bunched in with the UBE states. UBE bar in New York doesn't start till next year.CanadianWolf wrote:When ranked by overall pass rate for first time test takers, the highest (although not necessarily the easiest) are:

Re: Easiest bar exams
Yes, but New York's MBE standard is still lower than Utah's equivalent.
