Would either ropes or Sidley be reasonable with a 3.5 and secondary journal?

Definitely reasonable. Gives you a chance.

Gives you an in with the firms. Once you get past a certain stage it's all about fit via your interview skills.

I think it's school dependent. At Fordham, from what I hear and read, journal is important.

agreed. a lot of employers listed it as preferred on symplicity but thats not to say you can't overcome it

Agreed but the requirements on Symplicity aren't always accurate. I believe that the firms put the same requirements for many schools' Symplicity listings even if journal is not a big deal at the school.

We already mentioned Ropes is unlikely, Sidley slightly higher chance, and Proskauer basically wants LR top 10% or they'll laugh at you.

I don't see where Proskauer gets off with it's demands for Fordham. It's pull from Fordham, despite giving out a good number of offers, is horrible. If I'm not mistaken, no one from Fordham has accepted an offer at Proskauer in quite some time.

I turned one down last year. During OCI, this was not said to me, but another interviewee was told by the interviewing partner to not get his hopes up -- NYU and Columbia kids would likely get picked over him. That despite offering between 5-10 Fordham kids offers and none accepting.

IIRC correctly the vault and chamber stuff on them speaks a bit about how much it sucks to work there anyway. I kinda wish Fordham would repeat its Reed Smith course of action and just ban the douchebags. It's another case of ugly girl who thinks she's pretty because now she's getting anyone she wants because of the drought.

Agreed. Liked the partners I interviewed with there a lot, but the associates I interviewed with/met at lunch and drinks after interviews were gigantic douches. Of all the attorneys I met during OCI, not once did people brag about their income or tout themselves as highly as the associates I met at Proskauer. Really off-putting. Not sure if those are the type of people they were going for, or they just invite everyone and only those guys showed up, but if it's the latter, I was pretty shocked their recruiting department doesn't hand pick the people they want to represent the firm to potential Summer Associates.

I was under the impression we shouldn't mass mail firms that will be at OCI, and that knocks out a large number of NYC firms.

Talk to the CDC asap and see if that impression is correct. If you're a competitive candidate then perhaps waiting for your interview schedule is fine, but if you want to maximize your chances, there is no harm in mass mailing any and all firms now. Every day you wait is a day wasted in the job hunt.

This sounds about right to me based on last year. LR people with around 3.3-3.4 (in the top 25-33% range) usually netted around 10 screeners
