Top 20%, Davis/Hastings.
20 bids; 2 pre-selects. About what I was expecting.

top 20% UT, SF ties, and only 2 preselects. I'm online now with someone from my school who's top 10% and truly diverse, and she only got 2 as well.
WTF? I'm not going for sure.

Slightly below median, CCN. No ties listed on resume, but mentioned in cover letter.
1 alternate, and that's it. Yeesh. Doesn't inspire much confidence for OCI.

i wouldn't stress too much about these results; most people only get 1-3 interviews and the top candidates will get 10+. plus, i think there's a lottery right? most people should expect to get 1 more interview through that.

Is it worth flying halfway across the country for 3 interviews? I would tend to think not since interviews can turn on so little.Anonymous User wrote:i wouldn't stress too much about these results; most people only get 1-3 interviews and the top candidates will get 10+. plus, i think there's a lottery right? most people should expect to get 1 more interview through that.

i'd say maybe. are you really interested in the firms you will get interviews with? do you really want the bay area?Perseus_I wrote:Is it worth flying halfway across the country for 3 interviews? if yes to those questions, i'd probably say it could be worth it to go if there's not too much of a financial/scheduling burden. you said it yourself that interviews can turn on so little; you only need one to get a callback and maybe an offer. not saying it'll happen, or it's likely to, but hey, who knows.

Re: Bay Area Diversity Fair 2012
(different anon) imo it depends. I think 3 preselected screeners are worth $700 (or whatever airfare+hotel+food is) if it's an area you want to work in. It probably depends on your chances at biglaw generally. If you're in a position where you should get multiple offers then you can afford to ignore 3 interviews, but if biglaw is in no way assured I think it would be foolish to turn down 3 screeners.Perseus_I wrote:Is it worth flying halfway across the country for 3 interviews? good luck to everyone in this thread. I remember when I was in your shoes. Tough it out and you'll make it!
And when you find yourself in a dark place, where all other lights go out, remember... you aren't recruiting in 2009 or 2010.

No idea regarding my chances at Big Law generally. I ought to get something NLJ 250 based on lawschooltransparency.com, but who knows? I have no debt, so I either get Big Law or something equivalent, or I walk away from law with nothing lost but time.Anonymous User wrote:(different anon) imo it depends. It is an area where I want to work; however, there's about 4-5 firms from SF who come to my school's OCI. Would mass mailing be a good way to add a few more interviews? How should I go about compiling a list for this? I can't believe someone top 10% from my school only got 2 preselects, like me. Someone median at CCN gets none. So are there that many H's at Stanford and Berkeley who snap up all the preselects?

To me, under $1000 for 3 interviews with firms who preselected you (and pay 160k or close to it) is worth it for a place you want to live. But that's me.Perseus_I wrote:No idea regarding my chances at Big Law generally. I ought to get something NLJ 250 based on lawschooltransparency.com, but who knows? Definitely mass mail. Tally up all the SF and SV firms on NALP to get a list (though I hear the recent NALP overhaul is lacking some firms).

Re: Bay Area Diversity Fair 2012
How common is it to get the interview with a firm for which you're listed as an alternate? Also, would anyone be comfortable listing the firms they got pre selects or alternates for or is that generally a bad idea (doing it anon of course)? Would be interested to see which firms tend to choose the same people.

MVP top 20-25%, heavy ties to both SoCal and NorCal, 1L SA
7 bids, 1 pre-select, 1 alternate
. Maybe I messed something up changing my resume for this thing...
Probably not going to go. Not worth the $500-600 in airfare for 1 screener

T2 --> T10 Transfer
20 Bids, 2 Preselects and 1 Alternate. Seriously debating going with these stupidly high airfares.
Also, after not getting an interview for their diversity fellowship, failed at Munger again. That firm is really selective.

Re: Bay Area Diversity Fair 2012
So, are we generally thinking that not being preselected isn't necessarily a bad sign for regular OCI? I know this is a super competitive fair, but would this "feedback" on your application in the form of a rejection be useful for formulating a bid list later? If so, that's kind of depressing for me.

Maybe I miss counted earlier, but I think I just got an another pre-select which I didn't have this morning. I don't want to get ppl's hopes up but is anyone else seeing more pre-selects than when they first looked last night or this morning?

Re: Bay Area Diversity Fair 2012
So when did the firms receive our materials? The bidding deadline was when I only had 1 grade (a mediocre one) so my gpa was barely top third at UT. I updated everything around the 20th when my other grades came out (all A or A-). Maybe the firms never got this? I wonder If this explains my crappy results. Could I mass mail a bunch of firms including ones who didn't preselect me like MoFo?

Was your status previously for that firm "not invited" or "alternate"?Anonymous User wrote:This was me. I definitely got a new preselect since I checked this morning around 6:30 a.m. EDT. Now 6 preselects.Anonymous User wrote:CCN top 1/3 or so, SF ties, 1L SA. 25 bids, 5 preselects, 1 alternate.
