Dude, 13 is a good result.traehekat wrote:Man, can't help but feel a little dejected with my results. Not sure where I went wrong, except possibly wasting a bid on Sidley at 4, which could have been another mid market firm that I would have been more likely to secure an interview with.

Chicago firms are much more sought after than NYC firms at NU.ndirish2010 wrote:Sorry, obviously not an NU student, but that is crazy haha I saw tons of people on the Cornell thread bid them #1 and did not get them.IAFG wrote:Got 16 including Weil which I bid in the mid 20s lol @ Cornell

Re: Northwestern 2011 OCI Lottery Results
Got 16. Bid 66% Chicago and 33% DC and definitely did it right.
Good stats, good prior W/E.
5 DC (W&C, WilmerHale, Cadwalder, Arnold & Porter, Wiley Rein)
11 Chicago (Kirkland, Sidley, Mayer, Jenner, Katten Muchin...others)
I'm happy overall but realize that I bid very aggressively and had better follow through or I am totally screwed.

I got Texas only offices at 37-40. Minnesota all they up to 50. Seattle in the 40s.
I got 4/6 DC bidding them 18-24.
DPW at 31.

Re: Northwestern 2011 OCI Lottery Results
There is a ton of group think going on during lottery bidding. If a firm is popular (Weil has to be for NYC) people bid it high because it fills up. But then, since people bid it high, people bid it even higher. Then it's a race to the bottom.mths wrote:yeah that seems to have happened a lot herendirish2010 wrote:Sorry, obviously not an NU student, but that is crazy haha I saw tons of people on the Cornell thread bid them #1 and did not get them.IAFG wrote:Got 16 including Weil which I bid in the mid 20s lol @ Cornell
Sidley Austin seems like NU's version of Weil.

I'm not an NU student, but the same thing definitely happened with a couple of firms at UCLA this year. Sometimes you can try to out-think everyone else, but they are also trying to out-think you. In the end, everyone's a loser.Desert Fox wrote:There is a ton of group think going on during lottery bidding. If a firm is popular (Weil has to be for NYC) people bid it high because it fills up. Re: Northwestern 2011 OCI Lottery Results
If you bid Chicago that's a decent number. I think the average my year was 14 interviews. That basically works out to:traehekat wrote:Man, can't help but feel a little dejected with my results. All Chicago: 11-13
All NYC: 13-14
All DC: 15+ (very undersubscribed at our OCI).
Good grades (bid on Skadden, Cleary, etc): +2-5
Secondary markets (Arizona, Missouri, etc): +2-3
IPSECURE: +2-3
EDIT: BTW, that average is down from 22 or something for C/O 2007. Sucks to be all of you.

Re: Northwestern 2011 OCI Lottery Results
I had a question about Northwestern OCI. Do the AJD (2-year Accelerated JD) students participate on the same bidding process and OCI Lottery as the regular JD students?
Also, if anyone can give me a good idea of how the initial class (or classes) of graduating AJDs got placed, that will be great. Is it any different from the regular JDs? Are law firms looking at AJDs differently than regular JD students?
Sorry if some of you think this is not a pertinent question for this thread, but I figured that since this is a thread attended by current Northwestern students who are going through the career placement process, I might get a good idea.
BTW, congrats to everyone for landing so many interviews. Good luck!

Sidley is doing well. One of 2 Chicago firms hiring at (relatively) pre-ITE levels.

I think I was negligent in my research/planning necessary to get those lower bid interviews. It sounds like I had similar success 1-20 as Holly, DF, you, etc. Oh well.IAFG wrote:for the record i got 1-6, 8-11, 18, 20, 24, 35-37.IAFG wrote:Got 16 including Weil which I bid in the mid 20s lol @ Cornell
I'm definitely gonna try to hustle some extra interviews to feel a little safer.

I was SHOCKED to not get my 12-17. I really didn't think those were highly desirable firms. I was also surprised not to get my #7 (K&E NY).Lieut Kaffee wrote:I think I was negligent in my research/planning necessary to get those lower bid interviews. I got 1-12, 14, 17, 21, 29, 32, 46. Mix of Chicago and DC.
First impression: I strategized poorly on a couple Chicago firms, should have boosted them higher and relied on DC's unpopularity with NU students to carry more of those. Out come the resumes. But I really can't complain.

Re: Northwestern 2011 OCI Lottery Results
I got 15 interviews, mostly in Chicago. There are a few Chicago firms that I was surprised I didn't get, though. They were my bids 8, 13, 14, and I didn't expect them to be so popular. Does anyone know how likely it is to get an interview off the OCI waitlists? Should I send those firms my resume, or wait and stop by the hospitality suites?
Thanks, and good luck to all.

Re: Northwestern 2011 OCI Lottery Results
I would love to hear NYC firm-by-firm breakdowns of bidlists and how high up certain firms were needed to be placed in order to secure an interview (in complete "my bids are due in a week" self-interest). And the converse: where certain firms were placed with no interview granted.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
