The chart actually gives the number of offers.rayiner wrote:You can't derive either the median or the mean that way, because you have no idea how many callbacks happened in each year.Anonymous User wrote:It was indeed funny, but if you had the chart from the prior year, you could do some easy math to figure out the mean/median offer GPAs for the next year.rayiner wrote:Hopefully. In fairness, 2000-2005 were much slimmer years than 06-07, so that much data averaged together would actually be a pretty decent guide.rayiner wrote:Never Forget: U Mich CSO averaged GPA data from last year in with 2000-2008. Epic Lolz.

I have year-by-year data at NU from 2003-2009. Yes, 2000-2005 were somewhat leaner, but 2009 was much, much worse. The averaged data from Mich tells you almost nothing.disco_barred wrote:In fairness, 2000-2005 were much slimmer years than 06-07, so that much data averaged together would actually be a pretty decent guide.rayiner wrote:Never Forget: U Mich CSO averaged GPA data from last year in with 2000-2008. Yeah, but last year Cravath was also only hiring 20 summers. Look, what you don't seem to be including in your calculations is NY TO 190rayiner wrote:I have year-by-year data at NU from 2003-2009. Again, simple math and you can find out. I did that last year to much success. That's how I knew not to bid Latham, as their mean offer GPA for 2008 was a 3.6, a far cry from their 3.3 average at Michigan.rayiner wrote:I have year-by-year data at NU from 2003-2009. The information on Chart X (years 2000-2007 is):
Mean Offer GPA
Median Offer GPA
Number of Offers
Highest GPA given an Offer
Lowest
The information on Chart Y (years 2000-2008 is):
Mean Offer GPA
Median Offer GPA
Number of Offers
Highest GPA given an Offer
Lowest
Naturally, there will be a difference. If you had both charts, the trend was that the mean and median went up, as did the number of offers (assuming the firm made offers that year). Thus, the essential question to ask was, "what GPA did the firm have to make an offer for to make the mean/median jump up the way it did?" You just run an excel spreadsheet, put in some dummy GPAs so you get the original mean/median, and then add more GPAs until you reach the new mean/median. Average those GPAs you added in (of course, keeping it to the number of offers actually given), and you're done.

Re: Northwestern OCI Lottery Results
At least with the chart I have, the # of offers is a pretty broad range. I can't imagine extracting a useful number with just that data. Although if you do have more precise offer count numbers you could compute the average for last year, I agree.

NU just added another firm for OCI. Everyone gets one bid for one firm. This has got to be the most worthless OCI fail I have heard of. What more, the firm is an elite lit boutique that maybe 10 students at NU even have a remote shot at. I hope at least one of those people gets a slot. Northwestern difference, perhaps?

Re: Northwestern OCI Lottery Results
After receiving a summer offer, I cancelled 5 interviews with firms in markets that I would otherwise not consider over my summer offer. I'm curious to see if there will be any sort of an OCI waitlist. While the thought danced through my mind to simply go forward with these interviews for purpose of practice, I cancelled hoping for good karma in my targeted markets.

Yes, but unless multiple people withdraw, there will be no WL.
