Solid list of firms and ordering IMO. You should be in a good position with your GPA & this bid list.Anonymous User wrote:Low Stone, targeting litigation in NYC, no real work experience, Ivy undergrad, decent interviewer
Is this too aggressive? I want a fairly safe list. Also, I plan on adding a couple underbid hometown, TX firms during add/drop as back-ups, but I don't want to desperately need them. Bolded the ones I really care about.
1. Proskauer
2. Shearman
3. Kirkland or Sidley Austin
4. Gibson Dunn
5. Debevoise
6. Wilmer Hale
7. Weil
8. Jones Day
9. Milbank
10. Latham
11. Mofo
12. Willkie Farr
13. Paul Weiss
14. Cahill
15. Ropes & Gray
16. Cleary
17. Akin Gump
18. Fried Frank
19. Davis Polk
20. Goodwin Procter
21. Cadwalader
22. O'Melveny
23. Orrick
24. Norton Rose Fulbright
25. Dechert
26. Simpson Thatcher
27. DLA Piper
28. Hughes Hubbard
29. Baker Hostetler
30. Vinson Elkins
If you think it's too aggressive, what are some safer NYC options I could swap things out for? Thanks for the help!

Does anyone have the 2012 and 2011 bid numbers in Excel/Google Spreadsheet and wouldn't mind sharing? I have them in a PDF but it's easier to work with in Excel. Thanks so much!

There are a bunch of free web-based programs that will convert them for you and email you the new file. I use them a lot. If you do that, please do share the google doc url. I'd love to factor that info in.Anonymous User wrote:Does anyone have the 2012 and 2011 bid numbers in Excel/Google Spreadsheet and wouldn't mind sharing? Edit: On an EIP note, to what extent is "yield protection" a thing with law firms? If your grades are high, will firms like Milbank or Sheppard Mullin be skeptical or welcoming? Is there are super high burden of showing that you truly do want to work there?

3.75, corporate in NYC, K-JD. Any comments would be much appreciated! Any glaring issues with the order of bids? Is this too aggressive/should I include more 'safe' options?

Same stats, lack of work experience, and goals here. Any reason you didn't include Cravath?Anonymous User wrote:3.75, corporate in NYC, K-JD. Any comments would be much appreciated! Any glaring issues with the order of bids? Is this too aggressive/should I include more 'safe' options?

She might be cutting it close on a few firms, too. The "first failed bid" chart is tough because this is the first year we all have it, so naturally people who really want certain firms are going to bid them higher. I'd guess that Paul Weiss is going to go a bit higher than last year's "FFB", and Davis Polk could fluctuate since it has 40 less screener spots than last year.Anonymous User wrote:Same stats, lack of work experience, and goals here. Are there firms that you'd particularly want to work at? Might be worth bidding them a couple slots higher.

What'd you mean goals? Well, OCS advised against Cravath/Wachtell/Sullcrom together since there're pretty much 100% offered to honours; I was told to remove 2/3 but thought I'd try for one more.Anonymous User wrote:Same stats, lack of work experience, and goals here. Maybe goals was a confusing/weird way to put it. I only meant that I was interested in corporate in New York.Anonymous User wrote:

I figured that might be the reason (I got similar advice), I just thought I'd point it out in case you had left it off accidentally or something.

Re: Columbia EIP 2014
That's ridiculous, you're very high stone. If you want upper crust transactions in new york, definitely put those back on there (unless you have another reason not to of course). You might not get cb's, but it's absurd to suggest w/ a 3.75 that it's overly risky to try as long as you have a crop of less selective firms.Anonymous User wrote:What'd you mean goals? Just FRI: my advisor told me all the advisors gave out the FFB info to the students they would meet with last year for whatever firms they were thinking about, so while they didnt officially post it on symplicity etc. last year, many people still had access to that information.

+1brazleton wrote:I already thought OCS should be fired, all of them. This confirms it. You can and should put absolutely any NY corporate firm on your list that you'd like a chance to attend a callback with. Wachtell will be tough, but no easier for anyone else. Maybe Munger and Williams and Connelly are out but those don't affect you. Stop going to OCS now.Anonymous User wrote:What'd you mean goals?
