After last week a growing number of cohorts are finding themselves on hold, anxiously waiting for their SA firm to make a decision. The underlying issue (aside from anxiety) is having to decide on how to handle OCI… do they go, or not? If OCI was in September then they could cool their heels until a determination was made… but that’s not the timing that is in play. How hard can it be for the firm to decide, you’re in, you’re not in….traehekat wrote:For those still waiting for offers, just sit back and relax. Enjoy the rest of summer. Trying to read the tea leaves here is the ultimate exercise in futility - there are any number of reasons for which a firm may take a while to get back to summers about offers, the vast majority of which have nothing to do with the actual decision of whether or not to extend an offer. Do your sanity a favor and take some of that sweet, sweet SA dough and take a short trip somewhere with some friends.

I heard some firms were waiting to see business forecasts. You guys better hope the Dow keeps going up or there is an oil spill or something.

ANXIETIES. Hiring committee meeting postponed to "sometime this week." Credit card scam from same area code as firm keeps calling. Literally dreamt the word(ish) "offersecure" last night.

Why is this an issue? If you haven't heard you should do OCI.iLaw wrote:After last week a growing number of cohorts are finding themselves on hold, anxiously waiting for their SA firm to make a decision. Firms have to make final decisions, that can take time. And now we are in vacation season where hardly anything gets done.

On the topic of in-limbo offer status, what if one snags an offer from another firm before firm SA gets around to calling? I did not do 3L OCI, because it's terrible at our school. Instead, I spoke with some folks I know and set up interviews at firms that I either did callbacks last year with or that I liked from OCI. I have four set up next week in one city. If I get news from them, would it be appropriate to call firm SA and ask what the deal is?

Re: Summer Associate: Thoughts, Anxieties, Experiences, etc.
Interestingly enough in the last 48 hours a number of firms announced their offer decisions. From the cohorts I know (and the ones they know about) all but one was offered. The question a couple of cohorts are facing is whether or not to proceed with their scheduled OCI interviews or cancel them. My suggestion was to meet with firms that might offer something significantly better (perhaps pay, location, field, etc.) and then cancel the rest to give others a shot at them ― the economy might be better and offers are apparently abundant but it is still not like shooting fish in a barrel. What is the TLS feeling about cancelling versus checking to see if the grass is really greener at OCI? Let me ask saticastically, does "greener grass" even exist at 3L OCI?

I'm the anon above you. "Greener grass" exists, but I don't think it does at OCI. I think for that grass you have to go out and find it on your own by using connections and having a good resume.

Keep any OCI interviews you would consider taking over your current firm. Cancel the rest. This isn't rocket science.iLaw wrote:Interestingly enough in the last 48 hours a number of firms announced their offer decisions. Going on a week and a half with no word. In past years classes have gotten offers on the last day. Increasing likelihood of all day sulking/drinking in bed until I hear.
This sucks.

Same here. And it has only been less than a week. Constantly checking my phone and email, can't really pin down my travel plan for the summer, etc, all these are really frustrated. But the worst thing is fearing what this delay might mean .... no offer? cold offer? At least I know no other summers have heard back either.Anonymous User wrote:Going on a week and a half with no word. In past years classes have gotten offers on the last day. Very anxious. We ended last Friday, and my firm usually sends people home with offers. I'm thinking one of us is no-offered (and that that person may be me).Anonymous User wrote:Just got my offer, not really a surprise, but still nice to get the call. v20 in major non-NYC/DC market

Because firms don't care about us/them/you. They can no offer and keep it moving. I think anyone no-offered should out the firm though, so rising 2Ls will know what they are getting into.Desert Fox wrote:You guys are funny. Why are you so worried you are getting no offered.

You realize that is foolish to expect people to out themselves, right? How will it help rising 2Ls anyway? People are still going to take SAs at the firm.Anonymous User wrote:Because firms don't care about us/them/you. They can no offer and keep it moving. Not original anon, but I'm in the same boat. Worse, the "mother ship" offices were all 100% offered and the other offices with less than 5 summers have just been waiting.

For God sakes do not send out a firm-wide goodbye email. If that wasn't what you were intending on doing then carryon.Anonymous User wrote:Tomorrow is my last day as a 1L SA. If anyone has a sample goodbye e-mail, please PM me if you can. I'd like to send it out today or tomorrow. Thank you!
