Re: Michigan OCI 2012
Honestly, every bit of feedback I have ever gotten in my life about my interviewing has been positive. I'm top 1/3 with 0 call backs, mostly DC and Bay Area (bay area has been really quiet, though, I may still have some callbacks there, I hope);Anonymous User wrote:This terrifies me about my interviewing abilities.Anonymous User wrote:disagree--i have friends below median with 5+ callbacksAnonymous User wrote:disagree. this looks far, far worse than last years OCI, especially in NYC.
Nothing seems to be making sense. Some people are doing really well, while other people are striking out. The strike outs don't seem to be based on grade or what I'd guess about those peoples' interviewing skills.

Re: Michigan OCI 2012
For next year's class, a note on why I think I received call-backs from a set of firms, but none from a couple peer firms: I wouldn't ever, ever, ever, ever, ever [Friday reference] talk about how much you like a firm's pro bono program. Unless you're making some quick, passing reference. Even for firms with great pro bono programs, they could be worried you're just going to use them to pay off debt, then skip off to whatever public interest gig you're thinking about. Maybe there are some situations in which it would be all right, but I would be wary.

Someone in the UChicago thread heard back from them, and it was definitely after Michigan's OCI. Which doesn't necessarily mean anything, but also doesn't bode well for us.Anonymous User wrote:+ 1Anonymous User wrote:Anyone hear from Neal, Gerber, Eisenberg in Chicago?

Re: Michigan OCI 2012
Can't speak for last year, but as a transfer student I'm doing terrible: 1 CB and the rest either dings or silent. Lots of NYC still silent, but since everyone says they respond quickly I'm guessing these are all rejections. I've gotten only positive feedback on my interviewing and have significant WE, so I'm not sure if it's just b/c I'm a transfer or b/c my work experience is mainly public interest based.

Re: Michigan OCI 2012
Michigan people not doing well - first, mass mail. But also, go talk to OCP and put yourself on their radar. Trust me when I say that firms come around and you want to be one of the people that knows when they do. I know it's scary now to have 1/2/0 CB's, but you have to keep being as proactive as possible.
Also, read my thread. If you're worried about interviewing, OCP can help set you up with someone -- but try and ask for a real attorney and not just someone in the office. I got pretty brutal feedback last year, but it was definitely worth knowing how/where I was screwing up.

I still haven't heard anything from them. Weird.Anonymous User wrote:Freshfields NY email ding this morning.
If firms are still silent, is it worth sending an email to the interviewer reminding them that you're interested?

Re: Michigan OCI 2012
I have good work experience and median grades. I have 7 callbacks, 3 w/ elite (for lack of a better word) firms. Two friends who have really interesting work experience and below median grades have 7 & 8. Our friend who's a K-JD at the tip top of the class has 3. . . . FWIW. None of us our HYP.Anonymous User wrote:Folks with work experience seem to be doing better than those without.
I honestly think that thoroughly researching the firm, having insightful firm-specific questions prepared, and dressing well matter more than grades or work experience. When you say something like this, your interviewers will drool: I've done X and Y so my interests are A & B. I know you have great A & B practices because Q, R, S. I spoke with your, summer associates D & E as well, who put me in touch with J, the head of the practice group I'm interested in. J told me P & Q, which confirms what I found on Vault & Chambers, and further confirms what my friend's father, who's familiar with the B practice in D.C. told me, but one thing I haven't found on your website is ______." Things like that are more impressive than "I have straight As, how does your firm distribute assignments to summers?" which probably has the interviewer thinking, "what are you, too good to read the webpage?" That's my anecdotal two cents.
