Snail mail dings Neal Gerber and Schiff Hardin

so far I'm 1 for 5 in Chicago (with a number of still expected dings since others have heard back) things are starting to look brutal to me here.

True, but it's hard not to get discouraged when you see firms you interviewed at putting CBs out there and your phone/email is empty.rayiner wrote:Remember, Chicago isn't like NYC where after 2 days it's hopeless to wait for a callback.Anonymous User wrote:Preach brother. 13 Chicago screeners, only 1 CB so far. 3.6-3.7.Desert Fox wrote:It's how Chicago goes ITE. Do firms make callbacks on a rolling basis? I just assume that if one person heard then they called everyone that day. Someone please correct me if I'm wrongAnonymous User wrote:true, but if you haven't been dinged yet...Anonymous User wrote: True, but it's hard not to get discouraged when you see firms you interviewed at putting CBs out there and your phone/email is empty.

Re: 2012 NU OCI
it seems like it would be hard for big firms with multiple interviewers to coordinate their responses, if it's the interviewers who are making the calls. note that this is based on no real information.Anonymous User wrote:Do firms make callbacks on a rolling basis? Re: 2012 NU OCI
My guess about all this is that I think firms are going to be very cautious about callbacks/offers because they want to control their class sizes this year. Firms don't want to be saddled with an extra five SAs because of the economic uncertainty, fiscal cliff, etc.
Or maybe I'm just F'ed.

Re: 2012 NU OCI
A firm invites its top candidates; i.e.. the people they most want to hire, to callbacks first. They then look to the second pile and begin to schedule callbacks for mid-September, in mid-September if they think their class will not be filled, they begin to schedule more callbacks. So basically if you have not received a callback from a firm that has already scheduled several other callbacks but you have not gotten a ding then you are still in the running but you may be at the mercy of the quality of their other callbacks and how many acceptances they get. I know people that were still getting callback invitations and screeners into October last year--it can be a tricky game if you have an offer but would love to be at a different firm that has yet to ding or call you back. The 28 day rule should expedite the process a bit, but it should be obvious that a callback is good, a ding is not great, and hearing nothing is, well, nothing.

Actually, the time to mass mail was the day bidding results came out. I know several people that have lined up multiple screeners and callbacks from mass-mailing at that time. However, it is not too late but you should literally be mailing every big firm in your desired market and possibly several others as fast as you can if you are not feeling good about your OCI prospects. Its not too late, but its getting close if you want to get anything out of mass-mailing.

Re: 2012 NU OCI
I know multiple people with great personalities, resumes and GPAs who have 0 callbacks right now, and many who do have them only have ones in non-chicago or at smaller firms. AND even some of the local firms like Latham seem to have only done CBs for folks who interviewed with a specific person etc.
It is not time to lose your mind. If next wednesday rolls around and you've heard nothing, or started seeing some dings, maybe then get worried. But for now relax, crush today's screeners, and enjoy the weekend...
Although I would make sure you have your materials ready just in case - because like previous poster said, if you want to mass mail, you better do it soon because you are already late.
