Someone needs to contact me from the DOJ soon or else I'm going to go against my better judgment and stalk them until I figure out what "finalist" means...no. self. control.

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
My only theory is that because many of the antitrust field offices take only two or three people they also interview a very small number. Makes it easier to get moving on offers quickly. The only other offers we've heard of in this thread are from Civil Appellate (taking only three people total) and the USAO for Wyoming, which took a single person.Anonymous User wrote:I want this thread to pick up some steam..cmmmmmmmon offers
I wonder why antitrust is the only branch moving

Hrm..good theory, but my division doesn't do interviews. They do, however, take 16 people and have to distribute those people based on geographic prefs.Anonymous User wrote:My only theory is that because many of the antitrust field offices take only two or three people they also interview a very small number. Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
it seems like the civil division is proceeding with interviews on an applicant-by-applicant basis, which, to me, suggests they've ranked or preferenced certain applicants at this point, instead of treating us as class as they did at earlier stages.Anonymous User wrote:I had an interview with a civil branch and had references checked.Anonymous User wrote:so has civil (any branch) started interviewing this year or what?

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
Possibly. I mean, it's almost certain that they've started to separate probable offers and alternates. But I think another equally reasonable explanation for the staggered contact from Civil is that the sub-branches are moving at different rates. Since none of us can know what sub-division we're in, it'd be hard to compare.Anonymous User wrote:it seems like the civil division is proceeding with interviews on an applicant-by-applicant basis, which, to me, suggests they've ranked or preferenced certain applicants at this point, instead of treating us as class as they did at earlier stages.Anonymous User wrote:I had an interview with a civil branch and had references checked.Anonymous User wrote:so has civil (any branch) started interviewing this year or what?

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
there's no doubt that interbranch differences make this incredibly hard to predict. but i do know that fed. programs and appellate have started to interview, and i think we can safely assume that a number of finalists on here who have yet to hear anything ranked those two branches (and not others).Anonymous User wrote:Possibly. Are fed. programs and appellate the only worthwhile Civil Division branches?

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
Um... well I would be thrilled to get a job with any of them. I've never cared about prestige much at all, and I don't have any inside info about which ones are "worthwhile," but that's just how I feel.Anonymous User wrote:Are fed. programs and appellate the only worthwhile Civil Division branches?

Are we expecting that Honors offers in our components will go out before SLIP offers?

Didn't someone earlier in the thread say that one of the non-dc antitrust places wasn't doing interviews this year? Or did I just make that up?Anonymous User wrote:anyone else in my spot? secondary city DOJ antitrust finalist with no interview?

Does anyone know how big of a role the interview plays in the decision process? Is it more of a formality, or do the division's choices really hinge on how the interviews go?

Re: DOJ SLIP 2010
well, it doesn't seem like the branches are interviewing all of the finalists, so at least we're competing against a smaller pool. (knock on wood.) were your references contacted?Anonymous User wrote:Yeah.Anonymous User wrote:were you interviewing with a civil branch (like me)?
