I'm sure there are some unpleasant folks lurking around. But, IMO, Hogan is well above the norm in that regard. At least out of the firms I've worked with and for.

How many firms have you worked for as a practicing attorney? My guess is it's between 0 and 1.

Heard from pretty well sourced folks that "unofficially" JD will match before OCI begins. Unofficial b/c Brogan hasn't declared it officially.

This is what I figured. Though I think it sends the wrong message. It will be an elephant in the corner for current summers probably leading to many of them pursuing 3L OCI and many schools' deadline for bidding is in a couple weeks.

Not to mention that with over 1,000 domestic attorneys, at least a few will lateral between now and OCI out of either impatience/frustration.

TL;DR I just don't get the basis behind the holdout -- the market has made up its mind.

I don't exactly disagree, but no one at JD can be that surprised, although the message is usually that folks make market, it's also that this isn't the firm to go to if you want top dollar. My bet is that announcement comes with regularly scheduled comp memos at end of month. If so, then JD is just doing what it's always done, not worrying about public perception on this sort of thing.

From the buzz at JD, this seems to be the general consensus re: what will happen. Quiet announcement with regularly scheduled comp memos at end of month, and business is as usual. JD likely won't do anything out of the ordinary (e.g. make public announcements about comp) just because everyone else is doing it. I've given up waiting and have 100% faith that this will happen. Please BROgan don't disappoint me; otherwise I will puke my store-brand powder juice all over you.

But: What will happen to the comp of current first years? Current first years don't get the June comp memos. Maybe this year will be an exception.

Most firms that haven't matched at this point are probably just waiting for committee meetings or partner votes. They all know that the market is 180 in NY/Chi/CA/TX/Bos/DC/MILWAUKEE. Even if the big Boston or DC firms haven't announced yet, they will soon enough. It took 3-4 months for Cov, Ropes, WH, etc. to match in 2007, but that wasn't recruiting season. They'll all match in the next week or two.

Depends on the office. NYC is higher b/c most assocs could literally walk down the street at anytime. Other markets not so much.
