What's the damage so far this summer?

Going to pick up my keys to the apartment I'm subleasing on Monday. Kind of excited for my SA...but also want to enjoy every second of the time off I have.(except for this fucking law review work that just keeps coming)

I'm going to assume that every anon is the same "has a suit for every day of the month during 1L" anon bro, and respond accordingly (see: with hostility)

I'm really not sure what to expect. The firm I'll be at has a good reputation and the people I met were all really likable. But that was when they were recruiting me. But I'm looking forward to finding out (well, somewhat finding out). Gotta figure out if it's where I want to be or not.

How did you get through 1L year without borrowing his suits, you bum? My tuxedo t-shirt served me well.

I think taxes will come out out at your ordinary income tax rate and because in working during school imagine 25% will be taken.

Anyone look back on the firms website now and find some of the people you met for callback interviews are no longer at the firm? :|

Your effective tax rate as a single student will be lower than that, factoring in the standard deduction, one exemption, and educational credit, of course with the disclaimer that this is assuming your SA money is the only income you earn and report.

I'll put this link in the OP.

There's a calculator on the IRS that I can't seem to find that will estimate your allowances that you should put on your W4.

Be careful, though, I put 21 allowances, which seemed reasonable, for 9 weeks in a secondary last summer and would have owed just a bit if not for some education credit.

Not tax advice, yada yada yada, but why wouldn't you take into account education credits when trying to calculate your allowances? That's exactly what I did last year and it worked out perfectly.

I mainly spoke with partners at the firm I ended up with so all of them are still there. But I do wonder how different people will be since they won't be recruiting me.

https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/IRS-Wit ... Calculator

I used this, and got 29 allowances (12 weeks, no other income for the year, nothing else special), which seems crazy but what do I know. I might round down a bit to play it safe.

I took 26 allowances last summer and it worked out perfectly. Single, no other income. This year, with the lifetime learning credit, it says 31. Trust the calculator. 29 is probably right.

I bought a black leather briefcase/shoulder bag.

Better to use with the strap as a shoulder bag or without as a briefcase?

Hadn't heard anything in months either, but got an email this afternoon about day 1 administrative stuff and a few events planned for the first week (May 16 start date).

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
