Are any components still waiting for finalist updates, besides the OCIJ last batch that was supposed to go up today?

Civ. App. still hasn't posted finalists. So I guess just that and OCIJ?

Just heard from one of my references that he was contacted by EOIR on Friday and that they asked him to fill out a questionnaire. No word from the other two yet.Anonymous User wrote:Any other news from OCIJ reference checks?
Have not heard from mine yet, but I believe Deana said she was posting the last batch of finalists today, so there may still be a ways to go.

There is nothing encouraging about hearing that "there are other opportunities" when you didn't get the opportunity that you've been focusing on. There's nothing wrong with saying "I'm sorry you didn't get the job" or "I've been there, that sucks." In fact, that is often all I need to hear when I'm still dealing with my initial disappointment.Anonymous User wrote:Alright any chance we can agree to stop complaining about encouraging remarks on here? FINE, we are not sorry you didn't get what you wanted and there's no hope and no other opportunities out there. Everything sucks and we are all doomed.

WHOA! There could be some finalists for divisions that already posted added today. Holy buckets!
From Deana:
Re: Expectations for Tuesday, 11/24/2015
Generally speaking, the answer to the first question is yes. That said, I've had components coming back adding one and two finalists all day for sections/branches that already posted finalists. So its not 100%.
Offers go out at the issuing component's discretion. Some are already issuing offers. So, sadly, no way to not obsess if that's how you roll. I still have a pile of EOIR OCIJ finalists to post. Sorry.

i really wish deana would just tell us which components have already issued offers. hard to see why that information can't be shared, and it would be super helpful...
antoinette rangel, if you're out there, will you please ask her?

Deana's most recent message suggests she's done until Monday. Have any of the USAO's posted besides NY? It seems that there are still a few components that haven't posted or finished posting.
From Deana:
Playing "catch up"
Over the next few business days (probably after the holiday), I expect components to review their lists and add any candidates they overlooked. This happens every year. I'm out of the office the rest of the week, so likely the next updates will start on Monday.

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
If I'm reading Deena's messages correct the remaining OCIJ finalists were added and there will be no more. Are there any candidates that interviewed for EOIR OCIJ and have not been designated a finalist? I ask because last year the candidates were posting on the thread that they thought everyone was designated a finalist for OCIJ because they tend to want a ton of extra alternatives because it is the component that more people would turn down than others because of location. If there is no one here that is not a finalist then maybe we all are and it isn't as telling as it would be if some people didn't get a status change to finalist. Thanks!

More big news!
From Deana:
Info on offers
I've been asked which components have issued offers. Please understand that the offer process is decentralized. Not all offers from any specific component necessarily go out at the same time.
A number of HP and SLIP offers have been extended. I have to wait for the components to send me updates - I'm not involved in the actual offer process.
That said, the following hiring offices have issued some HP offers:
Civil - Consumer Protection Branch
Tax-Criminal Section
National Security Division
Tax-Civil Section
Civil - OIL
Civil - Commercial Litigation Branch
USAO - Northern District of Ohio
USAO - Southern District of New York
Criminal Division - Trial Attorney
USAO - District of Arizona
Civil Rights
Interpol
Civil - Appellate
Criminal - AFML

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
When people say they were not selected as a finalist, how do they know?
When I click on my application status on Avue, it says "No selection made" under "Status of Vacancy." I take this to mean I was not selected as a finalist. Is that correct?
I applied for ENRD, by the way.

Hm. I also applied/interviewed for ENRD. Did you interview? Mine says "selected for interview" and has not changed. I assume that this means that I was not selected as a finalist.Anonymous User wrote:When people say they were not selected as a finalist, how do they know?

I think a spreadsheet similar to what they had last year would be helpful with all this waiting. What do you all think?

I'm down for the idea of doing a spreadsheet.

Yeah, I was interviewed. I think the fact that your status still says "selected for interview" means they haven't updated it yet, and that "no selection made" probably means my status was updated to say that I was not selected. But I really have no idea. Thanks!Anonymous User wrote:Hm. I also applied/interviewed for ENRD. Did you interview? Mine says "selected for interview" and has not changed. You might be signing in from the wrong site. There is like a main page for all federal jobs and then a specific one for the HP. I know if you sign into the wrong one it will look different for your status. Try this link and see what it says under your status of it says selected for interview you are not a finalist right now.

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
Anyone have insights on coping with the DC cost of living while working on the salary paid to Honors attorneys? I'm trying to decide between an approximately 200-attorney firm that pays 110k-120k to new associates in states like Minnesota, Ohio, Iowa, and Indiana; versus an Honors Attorney offer that would pay 90k in DC. I'm definitely leaning towards the Honors Program, but the difference in cost of living between the Midwest and DC really makes the salary difference start to seem significant. I'm fortunate enough not to have any loans to pay off, so it seems like DC should be doable (and comfortable, even), but I would really appreciate others' insights on the issue.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
