Well, I'm a rising 2L doing second looks in NYC, and, throughout this whole process I have continually heard things from people, but, whatever you say.Anonymous User wrote:Rising 2l and had a second look in a major non-nyc market and the head of a practice group strongly hinted that nyc wouldn't be moving up this year so I'm skeptical. Did not have the pleasure of receiving an offer at K & L. This is, however, a firm that pays nyc market for all of its 'satellite' office. But if NYC moves and they do not follow after I accept the offer I will off myself.JohannDeMann wrote:did you interview at k and I gates?Anonymous User wrote:Rising 2l and had a second look in a major non-nyc market and the head of a practice group strongly hinted that nyc wouldn't be moving up this year so I'm skeptical. Does anybody have any credible evidence that NY won't be boosting salaries this fall?
I've never seen any.

Wait Kirkland Chicago threw 38K at summers? Explain pls.JohannDeMann wrote:175k in Chicago will get you further than 190 in ny. I don't think Sisley will match 190 but we will have to see. Kirkland will though. Or is Chicago to 190 credited?

They're paying 3ls for part time work. Check earlier in this thread. Paying them 80 an hour for up to 20 hours of worI let week. To work remotely etc.rahulg91 wrote:Wait Kirkland Chicago threw 38K at summers? Explain pls.JohannDeMann wrote:175k in Chicago will get you further than 190 in ny. Yeah, if NY to 190k actually happens, Kirkland in Chicago would certainly match. I think Sidley, Mayer, Winston, Jenner, etc. probably would not do that, at least immediately.

Sidley wouldn't pay the same across all offices? Or would they not match in NYC?trebekismyhero wrote:Yeah, if NY to 190k actually happens, Kirkland in Chicago would certainly match. I think Sidley, Mayer, Winston, Jenner, etc. probably would not do that, at least immediately.

In Chicago. I think all those firms have large NYC offices (besides Jenner) and would be forced to match there.Tiago Splitter wrote:Sidley wouldn't pay the same across all offices? This is blood sport for the firms. NYC will raise it high enough that Midwest firms won't have the balance sheets to match, however high that needs to be. His man pulls a knife, your man pulls a gun. He sends your man to the hospital, you send his to the morgue.

REMINDER: first year associates are a scarce and valuable resource. If firms don't pay top dollar, there aren't enough graduates to fill the slots, meaning firms have to turn down business and partners lose money.

Indeed. The alternative involves forcing the remaining associates to take on even more work. And if there's one thing firms won't stand for, it's overworked associates.thesealocust wrote:REMINDER: first year associates are a scarce and valuable resource. Re: NY to 190k??(possibly led by Paul Weiss)
My prediction (and what makes sense) is nyc to $175k with bigger jumps between years. For instance, $175 for 1st years, 200 for 2nd years, 230 for 3rd years, 260 for 4th years, 285 for 5th years. Associates need a pay raise and firms want to incentivize people with experience to stay.

I just don't understand why anyone would deny it. It would be like denying that the sky is blue.
