If invited to attend a reception for a firm I didn't get a screener with despite bidding on them, should I bring a copy of my transcript? Or should I just worry about making some kind of connection at the event and hopefully be invited to send in my info?

Bring a resume and transcript (maybe a CL) just in case. You're going to need to make that connection, but have the materials on hand. They know why you're there if you didn't have a screener.Anonymous User wrote:If invited to attend a reception for a firm I didn't get a screener with despite bidding on them, should I bring a copy of my transcript? Really? Are we talking like a dinner/drinks reception? I can't imagine walking around with a padfolio of papers at a reception with no one else doing so is the best look. Not that it's a huge deal but I imagine the best thing to do, if my dinner/drinks reception assumption is correct, would be to introduce yourself and let them know that you didn't get a screener but are definitely interested in the firm and maybe tell them that you will contact recruiting with a resume. Honestly though, I don't know why you haven't already contacted recruiting with your resume if this is true. It's not too late but I think that would be the way to handle it.Druid wrote:Bring a resume and transcript (maybe a CL) just in case. Derp, I interpreted it as hospitality suite. Don't bring the padfolio to dinner.oblig.lawl.ref wrote:Really? Are we talking like a dinner/drinks reception? I suppose we need more info on the reception to offer decent advice but he/she is probably already there doing whatever they are doing.Druid wrote:Derp, I interpreted it as hospitality suite. Re: Michigan 2014 OCI Thread!!!!!!!
OP from the original question. It is a general dinner/cocktail reception. The firm doesn't have a hospitality suite (kind of surprising since it is a larger firm that hires quite a few UM students). I just sent over my resume to their recruitment department. I won't bring my resume/transcript to the dinner but I'll be sure to make a few connections and let them know that I am really interested despite not landing a screener.

I think that's a solid idea. Just remember to relax and be yourself! Good luck!Anonymous User wrote:OP from the original question. It is a general dinner/cocktail reception. Any chance today's firms are waiting until the beginning of next week to make a decision about CBs? Don't they want to enjoy their weekend? Or is is no news bad news? P.S. Milbank sent out some CBs yesterday

Assuming that was a joke but it really does depend on the market. NYC is very fast. Other markets are a mixed bag but many move fast. But as always--seriously don't even think about reading the tea leaves. Keep mass mailing!Druid wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Don't they want to enjoy their weekend?

Generally no but some will.Anonymous User wrote:Will firms give cbs over the weekend?
Also re anon that replied to me above: I know it sucks but you're best off forgetting about them and moving on. There's still a chance but if you haven't heard by like Tuesday I'd abandon hope.
