I agree that in most cases, a 1L has no idea what they are talking about on a legal employment board. But I am a 2L at Penn and it does seem like at least 60% got big law.

Wow, only took a year to recover to 2006 placement. Whodathunkit? This is great news for delusional 1Ls.Kohinoor wrote:Boomtimes are back everybody. I am not a "Penn troll"
I am just a regular 2L, who went through the entire OCI process as did all of my friends. Maybe I just know a disproportionate amount of people who got biglaw. I am just telling the truth of what I have seen, since this thread is about the OCI results. If you don't believe me, thats cool too. whatever

90% of my friends got biglaw at Michigan...doesn't mean I think 90% of the class got biglaw.Anonymous User wrote:I am not a "Penn troll"

Penn 2L here again...in my first post, I said it "seems" like 60% got biglaw.
I really don't understand why everyone is being so rude. I am just sharing my impression of OCI, thats all.
Also, to substantiate my claims, I imputed the results of my friends to the entire class because I only have ONE friend on law review. Therefore, its safe to assume that I am not only friends with cream of the crop type students.

I don't think anybody is being rude. We're just in awe that Penn is putting as many into biglaw now as it did in the boom years.Anonymous User wrote:Penn 2L here again...in my first post, I said it "seems" like 60% got biglaw.

Maybe we are the same person except at different schools. I only have one friend on law review too and 90% of my friends got biglaw. Logically, because we all did well on the LSAT, that means 90% of the class got biglaw at my school. I see your point now.

1) CLS placed at least 70% in biglaw (OCI and non-OCI).
2) In boomtimes, virtually everyone who wanted BIGLAW at penn got it, a number much > 60%; I'm sorry if it didn't work that way at 6again, guess you all better move your school to the east coast and chop your class size in 1/2.

Penn 2L here again...I have also heard that 90% got biglaw in boom times..Penn is uniquely situated bc its close to NYC and DC, plus Philly is a pretty big market and Philly firms love Penn kids...so between those three markets, there are many possibilities to find something

Not at all. Boom times at the T14 were more like everyone outside bottom 10%.Kohinoor wrote:Boomtimes are back everybody. The 60% (assuming that's % of OCI participants) at Penn number is not completely unbelievable given their NYC placement. That's the figure OCS gave out for placement last year at NU.

Mais non. Boom times at the T14 were that everyone outside the bottom 10% could get biglaw (arguable but we pretend). They still didn't place 90% into biglaw due, arguably again, to self-selection.Anonymous User wrote:Not at all. Two different figures. Here we're presumably talking about 2L SAs. Those stats are about placement at graduation. People who do clerkships or big-government work at graduation usually do their 2L summer at a firm. Plus, even with 95% offer rates a measurable chunk of the class is going to get no-offered. So add up the 12-15% from clerkships and the 4-5% from no-offers, and the 3-5% from PI/government folks who do a 2L SA for money, then 85-90% 2L SA placement during the boom is necessary to have 70% at graduation placement.Kohinoor wrote:Mais non. That 60% figure getting something out of OCI is going to take a haircut. With clerkships, etc, the NLJ250 chart will probably have placement in the 40% range or lower.

Firms in secondary markets aren't shy about axing people. If you don't cut it performance-wise, or they no longer think you're a good fit, you're gone.Veyron wrote:LOL at people getting no-offered in boomtimes - maybe if they did aquagirl style shit.
At a lot of firms it means some combination of poor work product, lack of effort, and not participating in the social events. The only firms where even all of that won't get you canned are V10s in NYC. And even then you'll probably get cold offered.
In summary: it's never been as hard to get no-offered as some people might think, and outside of NYC it's always been common.

Re: NEW final 2010 OCI results thread that are ACTUALLY FINAL
People did get no-offered even in boom times. Think about it, in a school the size of Penn, a 5% no-offer rate overall = 10 students. You can't think of 10 people in your class that are going to get personality-pwnt after their 2L summer?Veyron wrote:LOL at people getting no-offered in boomtimes - maybe if they did aquagirl style shit.
http://www.nalp.org/uploads/1055_perspe ... fall07.pdf
Then nationwide offer rate for '07 summer was 93%. 99% in NYC, 95% in DC, 95% in Chicago, 93% in Philly, and in the 80-90% range in Atlanta, Michigan, etc.

You get a timeout. If you keep procrastinating by Penn-trolling you will get more timeouts.Veyron wrote:Its saturday night brah, I'm entitled to a little bit of procrastonation in between the lines of my memo.
Everyone else: Please cease with all the bickering in this thread. Especially since half of it is anonymous. This was a great thread for OCI sharing; if you have actual info to share please share it, otherwise please go bicker elsewhere. If all this thread is good for anymore is bickering then I'll just lock it, which would be a shame to have to do since there are still a few people out there looking for jobs with data to add.

Once again, this thread was a good thread, it'd be a shame for me to have to lock it. Or just keep punting people from it. Either way is fine with me.
