Grew up in TX and live in NYC. Bigger house is whatever and COL isn't as disparate as people make it seem (no car, insurance, free seamless 200 days of the year, instacart, walmart.com/amazon, etc). Housing prices in TX are increasing pretty rapidly but that's still a pretty big distinction.

However, the difference in taxes is absurd. No State or city tax makes TX STACKS better, especially after the tax bill. It's just not fair

There is a scramble to enter the most elite law schools. And then there is a vicious, Hunger Games-like atmosphere at those elite law schools to take home the best grades in 1L. The ones who are actually able to do it end up at the above-mentioned law firms. The ones who are less adept at it end up at the firms right below. People who have "succeeded" in this system are generally neurotic and probably suffering from something in the DSM-5, but they're also damn good lawyers because everything that have had to do to end up there selects for those skills. They deserve to get paid more for living the life that they do.

This. I know a person like this. He worked intensely all week, and had a near-zero error rate. He was also super stressed. I don't know if he took addy or what but my lower V100 friend was much more chill and que cera cera about work.
