Talk to career services, be aggressive during add/drop and be ready to show up early to get some same day interviews.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, I only got thirteen and I was thinking the same thing. Re: Columbia EIP 2016
Cities outside of NY are less consistent with the FFB number. It greatly depends on how much interest there is among the people in your own class. Probably lots of people this year want Gibson DC compared to last year. DC/LA/SF (the biggest non-NY bids, I think) FFB numbers can change a lot from year to year.Anonymous User wrote:missed Gibson DC at 11. wtf it was 18 last year.

Pretty happy, I got 24. Only missed two in my top 20, Goodwin at 13 (last year's FFB was 17) and Jones Day at 19 (last year's FFB was 24).

So many people are getting more than 20, I'm scared with my 10... apart from adding through the system, what else can I do?

If you went to any receptions or did any networking, try hitting up your contacts and see if they could try and reach out to recruiting and secure a slot for you (I've already done this for a few that I missed and the attorneys have been super clutch). Also, go to hospitality suites early and see if firms can squeeze you in.chasie wrote:So many people are getting more than 20, I'm scared with my 10... apart from adding through the system, what else can I do?

How did you only end up with 10? Did you not look at the FFB list when bidding?chasie wrote:So many people are getting more than 20, I'm scared with my 10... apart from adding through the system, what else can I do?

Got 23. Pretty surprising that I missed some that I bid 5 or 6 above the FFB. For example, didn't get Katten at 22 (FFB 26) or Cooley at 24 (FFB 30).

People do some version of this post every year. Next year, FFB changes by more than 5 for a bunch of firms, and people act surprised. Next year, again.Anonymous User wrote:Got 23. I have an offer from a pre-EIP interview from a satellite office of a firm that doesn't allow for multiple interviews. Do I have to cancel my screener with the NY office?

I did... and I made sure to always bid 2 and above the FFB.GoneSouth wrote:How did you only end up with 10? Did you not look at the FFB list when bidding?chasie wrote:So many people are getting more than 20, I'm scared with my 10... apart from adding through the system, what else can I do?

From someone who went through the EIP process, if I'm mid-stone and aiming for the top firms, should I clear up some of my 28 interviews so that I'm not as burned out for the one's I care about?

Mid-stone doesn't guarantee you anything...Do you already have an offer? That's the only situation I can see where you should drop many interviews. Grades definitely matter, especially for the top firms, but if you're an awkward interviewer, your interviewer is having a bad day, for some reason you two don't hit it off, or any number of reasons--you may not get a callback. It typically all does work out and you go to the firm you thought would be one of the final contenders, but you never know. Better to have the reassurance of multiple hits at the dartboard than find out you don't have many callbacks and offers, I think.Anonymous User wrote:From someone who went through the EIP process, if I'm mid-stone and aiming for the top firms, should I clear up some of my 28 interviews so that I'm not as burned out for the one's I care about?
If there's a firm you would never, ever go to under any circumstances, and you just bid them because you wanted to fill the slot, then maybe drop it. But if there's a chance you would take an offer there if you don't have any other better offers...I would keep the interview.

Managed to grab four more interviews with places that I bid on but didn't get initially. Hooray for the add/drop period!

Will a lot of our interviewers change or do the names on symplicity that we see right now generally tend to actually be our interviewer? Just wondering if I should record their prac groups and basic info right now or if thats more of something you do the day before/day of because of last minute changes.

Re: Columbia EIP 2016
This is bad advice. It all depends on your schedule. Obviously with mid-Stone grades its about quality, not quantity. If your schedule is blessed with strategic breaks, then by all means, keep everything you have. But if you're jammed on an afternoon with some key target interviews, be smart and don't kill yourself trying to squeeze in that Sidley screener.Anonymous User wrote:Mid-stone doesn't guarantee you anything...Do you already have an offer? Some will definitely change, but IIRC the majority of mine stayed the same. Probably worthwhile to just do that basic info/practice group now if you have the time.Anonymous User wrote:Will a lot of our interviewers change or do the names on symplicity that we see right now generally tend to actually be our interviewer? What should we expect from the kick off panel and is it worth attending?

For the firms that want you to bring a cover letter to EIP, who do you address it to? The interviewer? Someone else?

I think I typically just did the recruiter from whichever office I was interviewing with.GoneSouth wrote:For the firms that want you to bring a cover letter to EIP, who do you address it to? The interviewer? Someone else?

Does anyone know if we need a list of references for firms?
