Got invited to DC. Did they call it an interview for you? I got asked about practice areas did you?

ETA: Regardless you should go. Whether or not you could get it this year could potentially help with OCI plus missing class one day is not a big deal. Although I don't know how much money you have to spend to get there I suppose having to rent a car is a big deal

Do you mind providing a rough idea of your first-semester grades?

Is it necessary to start applying for judicial internships and things like that now as a backup plan or is there time to wait a while longer to see about 1L SAs? I'm in TX so there are quite a few 1L SAs out there and I have the grades but no interviews yet (grades just came out on Friday).

Depends on what kinds of judges you want to work for. Pretty much all of the Fed judge spots are gone I think. So the higher the judges you're looking at the earlier you need to get apps out.

Is it too late to apply for 1L summer associate positions? I didn't send out any apps because I thought I did poorly but grades just came back and they were stellar. Looking in the LA area only for this summer.

Has your classmate heard back about a CB yet? I interviewed myself (fairly recently) and have yet to receive any news.
If you don't mind me asking, was this before or after you sent in grades? Any prior work experience? No word from V&E here...

No problem. Happy to help.
It was before grades, and I had some prior work experience that the interviewer mentioned and ask some questions on. Haven't heard back yet after the interview, though.

first semester 3.83, top 3% at a USNews 100 rank school. White male. Any chance at 1L SA? If not, probably doing an in-house externship for summer, or judicial extern w/ a judge. Thoughts on externs? look good on resume? no?

Anyone heard back from any USAOs? Interviewers promised to have a decision for me on Monday and I've gotten nothing but radio silence since.

Has anyone applied to any of the international offices? Is it even worth the time? I'm thinking Abu Dhabi.

Have an interview at a USAO on the east coast this week, but nothing from any of the others.

International offices of what and if you mean firm it's probably less likely than very selective secondary domestic markets so you'd have to have very solid ties and they'd have to take SAs but this seems pretty unlikely. Someone with more knowledge should chime in though

Do you have business or native proficiency in Arabic or Farsi? I'd imagine that, right after whether or not they have an SA program there at all, is the most important factor to consider. I'd also assume ties to the region would have to be pretty strong. Otherwise you come off as a person looking to get a hella paid vacation to a pretty dope city.
On a more serious note, maybe look into doing some research on here or other sites. Also maybe email the firm, call them, or just bring it up during a firm reception (if you can still go to one). Just casually be like, "Yeah, I've been looking into doing an international SA because X and this firm has a strong presence in Abu Dhabi. Could you speak to any possibilities for SAs there, or in any other international offices in general?"
Hth, OP. Best of luck!

Don't mean to sound harsh, but I'm going to go with a resounding no here. I doubt your ethnicity would be enough to encourage a firm to send a 1L to Abu Dhabi for $3K+ a week.
For the record, you can try but I don't recommend it because you may just be throwing away an opportunity at a firm office in the US or undermining yourself. Best of luck, OP!

Anybody know whether firms "yield protect"? I'm looking to get a 1L SA in this one secondary market that I have ties to (that's where home is), but my grades/school rank actually enable me to get 1L SAs in NYC and such. I'm also pretty late to the application game in this secondary market. If the firms don't think they're your top choice and/or they don't think you'll return for a 2L SA for whatever reason, are you likely to get dinged?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
