+1 wondering the same thing.
They are not necessary. If you do, it should be very short: Dear ms. Blank, Thank you for meeting with me today. I enjoyed discussing ________ (something unique that shows you paid attention and reminds the interviewer of you) with you. After meeting with several attorneys, I believe FIRM presents a good fit for me.

Don't try to be funny or reaffirm your commitment to the firm. 3 sentences tops.

When is it appropriate to follow up after a callback? One week? Two?

Baker Mckenzie ding (email)--shocked about this bc I thought the interview went really well and had someone at the firm who said theyd put in a good word for me. and their hiring criteria was 3.0, which my gpa was definitely above.

Their hiring criteria on the online application is 3.3 for all schools.

Keep the energy up and keep trucking; it's probably only about halfway over. I'm a rising 3L and it was well into September before I could decide. For most people, it'll make sense to do second looks and to not cancel many callbacks, even if you're pretty sure you're not interested in the firm. Definitely also speak to former summers and ask them all the questions you can't ask people at the firm. You want to gather as much information as possible during this period, making the most informed decision you can, because this is really a huge decision. Good thing is, in the end, you will have all you need to make the right call. Go with your gut then coast into 2L and beyond.

Not really useful or predictable because there's a wide variance even among people at median w/r/t diversity, work experience, interviewing skills, social skills, other intangibles.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
