In my satellite office of a V30 it's $60/person with no limit on the number of lunches or associate:summer ratio.

DPW is 2x per week at $75pp - must have 1:1 associate to summer ratio. Partner things don't count.

also, you can use the policy for dinners (which I don't think anyone realized until they started) since lunches are often provided at meetings and can be difficult to plan/coordinate among associates with constantly changing schedules

Jones Day is notoriously cheap. They also pay below market.

PW is $65 (ish) per event, no limit. Lunches are preferred to be as close to 1-1 as possible, however at the impromptu bar things that got expensed (3 this week) it was usually a lot more summers than associates. They also let us expense transportation to or from the events.

There's also a really fancy weekly cocktail party with top shelf liquor and fancy food.

Most lunches are reserved for michelin star restaurants; its what the associates use as a proxy for "fancy food." Once a chef hits michelin 1 the restaurant figures it can float a pre-fix menu that's almost inevitably $60+ for lunch and $90+ for dinner. Add in beverages, tax and you're easily up to $70 or 75 or whatever.

At some places, summers actually have to supplement their lunch budget to cover the pre-fixe (e.g. Per se or eleven madison park)

If you aren't in manhattan, more than $50 seems totally unnecessary

some firms will accommodate this when you are an associate. i wouldnt ask if its not going to cause you a lot of pain.

I vote Friday after work instead of weekends b/ everyone's guaranteed to be in the area instead of other weekend plans.

For DC, I'd recommend something near the major law firm hub (Metro Center - Farragut North). Open to suggestions but will start looking if no one with actual initiative and city knowledge steps forward (disclaimer: lived in DC for 12 years but do not get out to bars much anymore, so my experience is limited),

My firm just gave everybody a new BB.

Although, first week will probably be mostly training, you can always use another summer's, or if you REALLY need it, can use the online one.
