I think so--and I had a lot of success emailing. You'll also have more time to talk because they can schedule time in their day for you.

Yes - an email asking whether they would have a few minutes to speak will go over much better than cold calling someone. We get cold called so often by recruiters, financial advisors, tailors, etc. on any given day that we would probably just screen your call to our assistants anyways, and someone assuming that we have 5-10 minutes to chat on a complete stranger's time schedule would rub many people (myself included) the wrong way.

Yeah, in this era of technology cold calling is pretty invasive.

Continually amazes me what people think is acceptable behavior.
On another note, is anyone having trouble finding any employers to add using the instructions in the OCI Guide? The OCI Guide says to look for "a gray interview date box" next to the firm's name (within the OCI tab I assume) but I can't find any with such a box. Does it have something to do with how many interviews I have? I thought it was supposed to be open to everyone as of 9 AM this morning...

I was able to sign up for three, but I had to go through several pages before I found one with a little gray box. It might have something to do with what area you're searching (NY has about 10 firms with boxes). OCI says no more than 25 interviews via Symplicity, so if you're at 25, no more for you until day-of sign-up. I'm still not sure how the waitlist for firms works though. Do they automatically get added to our list or do we still have to sign up?

Some of these firms seem to want an undergrad transcript. My undergrad charges money for transcripts, for which I would rather not pay, does anyone think the firms would have a problem with being given a copy on regular printer paper?

Last year, unofficial ones were fine.

I think Cravath is the only one on interview list that specifically requests one.

Just got an email that Faegre Baker Daniels is no longer participating in Michigan's OCI. Hopefully no more drop.

Agreed. So... question: how important is it to attend the various receptions the firms are putting on?

FWIW, saw this in another thread:
Anonymous User wrote:I'm an attorney who will be at one of these on behalf of my firm. In my view, it serves two purposes: (1) as an opportunity for me to sell my firm (because it's the best and you should want to work here) and (2) to screen out weirdos.
Basically, attending can only indoctrinate you or hurt you. I guess it MIGHT help you if you really dazzle me, or some of the higher ups who will be there with me, but I sort of doubt it.

I'm probably attending the receptions of the firms I didn't get and that's it. No need to come out as a weirdo before the screening interview (I probably will somehow...).

The firm I was with this summer gives callbacks based off of receptions. You have to meet the right people of course and impress them, but I know 2 summers who didn't have screeners with the firm, met someone through a reception, had strong grades (obviously) and were given callbacks.

Anyone hear from (or know of other people who've heard from) Schulte, Mayer Brown, K&E, or Milbank?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
