If I accepted an alternate and then received an interview, how do I know whether I got the interview as an alternate or through the lottery?

14. 3.2. K-JD, but worked throughout college. Employers always mistakenly assume that my W/E was post-grad until they check the years on my résumé.olive16 wrote:How many? GPA/WE?Anonymous User wrote:Not as many interviews as I would have hoped.

I think that's pretty solid for your numbers.

Which markets? That seems super low. I had a 3.31 and had 17 (targeted NYC)Anonymous User wrote:A little freaked out.. Only 11 interviews: 3.3X, 2 yrs WE. Any suggestions?
Not sure re: suggestions. From personal experience and what I've heard from others, attending receptions and hospitality suites doesn't really get you anywhere if you don't already have a scheduled interview. The head recruiter at the firm I just summered at actually told us they don't give interviews or callbacks based on resumes they get at hospitality suites as a matter of policy. I'm pretty sure they don't even accept them.

How do employers know our actual GPAs? They don't show up on our transcript.

3.5x, 23 interviews: 15 ps, 3 from alternate, 5 from lottery. +1 callback from a firm I interviewed with last semester.
Is ~5 a normal lottery number?
Does everyone have many many more interviews their first week compared to their second week? Mine are all reallllly frontloaded.
Good luck everyone!

Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
employers can calculate a gpa, that's not hard math
and during the bidding process you could see when all the firms were interviewing, the majority were interviewing in that first week. i'd guess most people are going to be frontloaded

This is kind of obvious advice, but just be as prepared as you can possibly be. Most important thing is to try to get in and practice interviewing with career services if you haven't already. If you have, try to go again. Go over that list of common questions they have and practice answering every single one them out loud. Have a friend/girlfriend/parent/homeless person read them to you so you can answer back. And make sure you prep for your interviews - know everything you can know about the firms, the lawyers with whom you're interviewing, and the city where the interview is. Interviews are mostly formulaic, and they can be mastered through practice and preparation.Anonymous User wrote:A little freaked out.. Only 11 interviews: 3.3X, 2 yrs WE. Any suggestions?
Also, start mass mailing NOW. The sooner you get your shit together and out the door the better. Figure out where you'd be willing to live, find all the large and midsize firms in those cities that aren't coming to OGI, and send your stuff asap. That, and for any firm where you think you have a reasonable shot with your GPA, visit their hospitality rooms, shmooze with their attorneys, and drop of your resume. People absolutely get interviews out of doing that.
And now that all that's out of the way: take a deep breath and don't panic. Eleven interviews is plenty enough to convert, and it only seems low because of this thread (looks like your class is doing really well in general). In previous years, someone with a 3.3x who got 11 interviews would be delighted, especially 2-3 years ago. Many people convert with single digits interviews, some with only a handful. You'll be fine if you put in the time necessary.

I have 18 of my 23 interviews in three days during the first week. I think 5 is around the number KD said most people get from the lottery. I think I got 2.Anonymous User wrote:3.5x, 23 interviews: 15 ps, 3 from alternate, 5 from lottery. +1 callback from a firm I interviewed with last semester.

Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
Is there any data on what the major market hiring is like via OGI? For instance, will virtually all of the top 25% get something market paying if they want it?
Does almost everyone above median get something?
I ask because hiring in the major markets seems to be much more difficult except through OGI.

no data that's been sent out to us. that would mostly only be helpful if you were still choosing between law schools though, right? you'd be wise to hustle regardless of where you are % wise once you're trying to actually cop the job

Re: 2013 UVA OGI Thread
A few pages back someone asked if KD emailed about interviews from alts after schedules were out. Yes, he does. I do not have a full dancecard, and I got an email today letting me know I picked up an alt interview. Another friend picked one up today too, but that person was asked if he wanted it first. I was not. I'm up to 19 and feeling ok about everything, but still crossing my fingers.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
