No, don't bother people that already dinged you.Anonymous User wrote:Any harm in sending out grades to firms that dinged a few weeks ago (before getting grades)? Have solid resume/ undergrad yet got some dings from desirable firms that hire 1Ls. Could it work unfavorably for OCI next year to bother by sending them grades? Hoping there is a .0001% chance they change their mind when seeing good grades....

A few weeks ago I sent them a resume through their online application form and got a polite message within a few days saying they currently had no openings for 1Ls.dingbat wrote:NYC.TemporarySaint wrote:Which office for Ropes?dingbat wrote:As an aside, Ropes & Gray does take on 1L SAs, though it doesn't advertise as such
Paterson Belknap might as well, though I can't get confirmation.
Good luck to everyone who tries (and if you get the job, you owe me a beer)
Basically, I learned that even though they officially don't take 1Ls, somehow there are a few every year

And I heard from an attorney there that they don't have openings for 1Ls, but there are a few each year anyway (he couldn't tell me how they got there, though)Anonymous User wrote:A few weeks ago I sent them a resume through their online application form and got a polite message within a few days saying they currently had no openings for 1Ls.dingbat wrote:NYC.TemporarySaint wrote:Which office for Ropes?dingbat wrote:As an aside, Ropes & Gray does take on 1L SAs, though it doesn't advertise as such

S&C asks for a transcript from everyone so I think it's more like a weeding out process.

Yeah, it is possible; however,my school name should have been sufficient to ding me outright.Anonymous User wrote:S&C asks for a transcript from everyone so I think it's more like a weeding out process.

So this is a super dumb question, but um, when employers ask for a transcript, they're only talking about 1L first semester grades, right? No undergrad nonsense, correct?

Some wanted both but they always specified undergrad and law school.Anonymous User wrote:So this is a super dumb question, but um, when employers ask for a transcript, they're only talking about 1L first semester grades, right? No undergrad nonsense, correct?

Have an inside source at SC and this is what they told me.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, it is possible; however,my school name should have been sufficient to ding me outright.Anonymous User wrote:S&C asks for a transcript from everyone so I think it's more like a weeding out process.
If they reply right away (assuming you applied sometime in December) asking for your grades when you get them, then that means they actually are interested in you.
However, if you send your app in December and then you get a grade request or reminder in January, then that's a formality.

Leaning towards formality ...sent email 1/16 and got response asking for transcript 1/21Anonymous User wrote:Have an inside source at SC and this is what they told me.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, it is possible; however,my school name should have been sufficient to ding me outright.Anonymous User wrote:S&C asks for a transcript from everyone so I think it's more like a weeding out process.

So, I emailed firms before I got my grades...it's been radio silence... Do I wait for transcript request or do I email my transcript unsolicited?

Did they ask for a transcript? I personally waited for requests.Anonymous User wrote:So, I emailed firms before I got my grades...it's been radio silence... Do I wait for transcript request or do I email my transcript unsolicited?

No.... In your case, how long was it in b/w when you emailed and when they asked for a transcript?ImNoScar wrote:Did they ask for a transcript? Update them with the transcript now. Waiting makes no sense.Anonymous User wrote:So, I emailed firms before I got my grades...it's been radio silence... Do I wait for transcript request or do I email my transcript unsolicited?

The shortest was within a week. The longest was about five weeks. If your grades are good, why not send them.Anonymous User wrote:No.... Might as well reply to the original message but it isn't necessarily threaded on their end. Something like this: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 0#p6312813Anonymous User wrote:does anyone know how to word an email of this type? straight and to the point... or what?

Re: 1L Summer Job Search
Interviewing for an in-house position. Assuming they ask for long-term career plans, is it okay to say big law in a different market? They don't expect me to say your market/your company right?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
