Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that big firms (V10) go to Howard just to kiss the alter of diversity - but they don't actually hire a significant, if any, amount of students.

They told us that a plurality of Vanderbilt grads in 2009 took the NY bar last year, which is encouraging. But you knew that I'm sure. Where do you want to work? Any preferences?
I could never see myself leaving FL, GA, or TN. Coming home to FL really made me want to come back here, too.

I think he was trying to be a wiseguy. I will say thought that they definitely do hire some students every year.

When you're using your Vandy degree to make 145K in Atlanta and living like a mogul you won't care though.

Dude, not fair. They fixed the East STL branch up and it looks a lot better now. They are even talking about getting an elevator.

I rag on the South because I've lived here 23 years now, and it's a shithole, unless you fit the "Southern" stereotype. I think I've been here long enough to be qualified to comment on it. The stereotypes are true; people here really are stupider and less motivated. They actually gave this long lunch session once where they tried to convince us that markets like Nashville and St. Louis and Charlotte weren't all that bad, simply because of low cost of living.
On the other hand, if you're more religious and traditional, I suppose it would be fine here.

+1. St. Louis is the definition of a midwestern city. Trust me: for better or worse, I've spent the last 21 years here.

You, sir, have apparently never been to St. Louis. Referring to STL as the south is one of the stupidest things I have EVER read on TLS, and I have read a lot of very stupid things.

Umm Ive been all over St. Louis and I live in the actual south.. that city is a vast POS. Indianapolis is the definition of a midwestern city, St. Louis is not. St Louis is about as non-southern as Louisville, KY is.

Regardless of your feelings on the city being a POS, what on earth supports your assertion that it is southern?
Accents? No.
Southern culture? No.
Geographically southern? No.
Assumed to be southern by the general population? No.
Actually no, let's not derail this very useful thread further. Go here:

I neither love the South nor St. Louis but calling St. Louis the South is absurd.
Missouri as a state, however, can def. get a little bit hick.

oh really??? Maybe you have only been to the "nice" parts of St. Louis. In any southern city those parts of the town dont have accents. But yes, plenty of people in st. louis have accents. It is a really borderline city, some consider it the south and some consider it the midwest depending on who you ask but it most definitely has southern qualities. If you have ever been to an actual southern urban area (ATL/Memphis/Raleigh/etc) you would notice that immediately.

I was reading an interesting thread yesterday, something about School OCI Data. It had some statistics in it. Can anybody link me to it?

Haha...hit that 16 button on the bottom right-hand corner of your page.
But seriously, if you want to read some scary posts, search for 2009 OCI post-mortem or something like that.
