Shearman matched (for US track associates).

It's getting to the point where I'm starting to respect Covington. If only some firms matched Cravath, Covington would look weak. But now that seemingly every V100 firm is rushing to match, Covington's refusal to move looks alpha. Covington is so secure in its prestige that it doesn't need to match market.

So is that a confirmation of match for WSGR?patentlitigatrix wrote:Oh we matched. Question about Atlanta market - I thought A&B already paid market (meaning $160k) there? I thought only one or two of A&B's offices (RTP, for example) were below market. Wrong? And are thoughts that A&B will match/bump?

Strong likelihood some of these firms (particularly at the bottom) don't match.

Nope. A few firms like A&B, K&S, Troutman (and maybe others) give an IP bump to 160 or some where near there. Market is around 135 for non-IP, like it is in Charlotte.Anonymous User wrote:Question about Atlanta market - I thought A&B already paid market (meaning $160k) there? Yup, good call. Never remember they're in Chicago.Anonymous User wrote:You forgot Ropes. They'll match. Eventually.
And yes, they'll definitely match (too much NY/CHI pressure from purported peer firms).

Suppose you accepted an offer from a firm in New York that, at the time, paid market but is unlikely to match the Cravath scale. How do you go about exploring alternatives?

I wouldn't give up quite so soon. I predict a huge wave of new york firms next week that accounts for most of the remaining v100 that are new york based.Anonymous User wrote:Suppose you accepted an offer from a firm in New York that, at the time, paid market but is unlikely to match the Cravath scale. What about Perkins? Currently at-market in many big cities but not all...

No. Any firms that haven't matched yet have experienced such a decline in image and prestige they aren't worth staying at. You should contact HR and rescind your acceptance ASAP and move on.jbagelboy wrote:I wouldn't give up quite so soon. Same boat here. I accepted at the NYC office of one of the above firms (not JD), and at the time, I would have thought it inconceivable that they would not keep up with market. Covington really threw a wrench in the works for DC based firms with New York offices...

This. It took the majority of firms in NY 3 weeks to match last time - it's been less than 1 week thus far. Give it time.jbagelboy wrote:I wouldn't give up quite so soon. Have to figure they'll match in CA, Chicago, NYC and DC when the DC boys move. Don't know what they would do in Seattle or DenverAnonymous User wrote:What about Perkins? Currently at-market in many big cities but not all...

The most important thing, more than securing a job at a 180 firm, is to rescind any acceptances or resign ASAP (if already at a firm). Being unemployed is better than waiting an extra few days to see if your firm matches.Anonymous User wrote:Diff anon, also interested.Anonymous User wrote:How do you go about exploring alternatives?

Same boat as a firm like Pillsbury. Except Pillsbury is "NY based" but IIRC they also consider themselves SF based.Anonymous User wrote:PPP: $1.1m; RPL: $800kAnonymous User wrote:What about Perkins? Currently at-market in many big cities but not all...

Plus isn't Perkins cheap? They pay their summers less than prorated market in big cities. I heard their LA summers got paid less than freakin Seattle.

Can someone phone BROGAN and tell him it's time for JD to wake up! lost hours spent drooling on TLS this week are more than going to make up for any lost PPP.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
