I don't like the whole "MoneyLaw" thing. No firm wants their client to come and say "oh you're a MoneyLaw firm huh?" Change it to BadassLaw or something if you want to differentiate from the rest of BigLaw.

I bet ATL is just refreshing/ripping off this thread and the tally thread for its new "comprehensive list" of firms that have/have not announced

Also: anyone want to guess the over-unders on Wachtell and Boies new scales?
as a percentage of their past margins over market, Boies would be at $195k, Wachtell base at $186. I'm guessing Boies goes to $190 (195 seems like a strange base) and Wachtell to $185.

At least you didn't have to manually click through each one on a separate page.jbagelboy wrote:I bet ATL is just refreshing/ripping off this thread and the tally thread for its new "comprehensive list" of firms that have/have not announced

Boies' base is 174 now, which is a strange base. Not that I want to start a debate about that. What I really wanted to say is that I could see these firms waiting awhile to raise bases so that the dust settles. They don't seem to be market movers, just market beaters. And I think partners at the firms would prefer to move only once. Hence, the question of when they move is also interesting.jbagelboy wrote:Also: anyone want to guess the over-unders on Wachtell and Boies new scales?

Generally wrote:So does a 180k NYC now beat a 130k ATL or other smaller markets? Pretty sure 130 in ATL would go further than 160 in NYC after taxes and living expenses, but does 180 start to tip it back to NYC if you are looking at having the same life style and paying off student loans as fast as possible? I don't really know how much the taxes up there eat away at your pay after fed, state, and city take their bite.
Pro is your high purchasing power, con is you live in ATL. It's like making 140 in Detroit/Cleveland. Thats almost 400 in nyc, downside is you live in Detroit/Cleveland.

Orrick just sent an email saying that it's on the agenda for the meeting of senior leadership scheduled for next week. Better than silence, I guess.Anonymous User wrote:WSGR associate here. Any speculation/opinions about V50-100 moving toward the $180K mark, or is the 2007 chart a good indicator of when that could happen?

LOL. Orrick really showing they get it: "The Orrick partners understand that associate compensation is an urgent priority. Therefore, we've added the issue as an agenda item to an already-scheduled meeting. There will be powerpoints. Thanks for all your continued hard work."Anonymous User wrote: Orrick just sent an email saying that it's on the agenda for the meeting of senior leadership scheduled for next week. Is anyone here from Fenwick and know what the 1800 hours associates are? (specifically, are they patent prosecution associates?). Also, can you share whether the 1800 hours people were previously on the same payscale as 1950 associates but now are not, or if they were always different?

Fenwick's memo was kind of hilarious. It read like a bonus memo. Yeah, sure, we're matching Cravath base salary scale...dependent on good performance.Anonymous User wrote:Is anyone here from Fenwick and know what the 1800 hours associates are? Re: NY GOES TO 180k! IT HAPPENED!!!! (CovingTTTon to 160?!?)
All Fenwick first years only have to bill 1800, but are compensated at the 1950 rate. The other 1800 hour associates are 1800 hour associates by choice-and it is my understanding that a lot of associates are on the 1800 track. Some were previously 1950 and shifted down, and some people change from year to year based on what is going on in their lives, etc. You can shift back up to 1950 from 1800 too. You generally declare it near the end of the billable year. Pay was proportionally reduced for people at 1800 at the 160k scale, and I imagine the plan in the same at the 180 scale. If you are on the 1800 track and bill over 1800, you are trued up, up to the 1950 salary. I would guess that policy will remain the same too.Anonymous User wrote:Is anyone here from Fenwick and know what the 1800 hours associates are? Agree the memo was a bit on the hilarious side and a bit touchy feely. But meh, we matched so that is good stuff.
