DC being a "home market" for GULC is like NYC being a "home market" for NYU -- there's no real home court advantage when you're up against HYS folks just as intent as you to work there, whether you're in the top 10% at GULC or not.Anonymous User wrote:Well, future years of GULC should know that being well into the top 10% of your section is not fool-proof protection against OCI decimation, at least if you bid only on D.C.
just wondering why they're going to better-looking GULCers with less brain power
Oh, I know people with very good conversational skills and good grades that are struggling in D.C. market. It's just a really tough market. Especially if someone bid on firms with medians around their GPA, they are, for the most part, competing against peers with similar GPAs. Combine that with the scarcity of summer associate positions in D.C. and you're bound to have a lot of disappointment.

I'd point you to OCI II, but there are only 8 firms, so not much of a redoAnonymous User wrote:can we just redo this whole OCI thing

Re: Georgetown OCI 2019
Not top 10%, targeted NY. Have call backs. Speaking to a larger problem. I’m sorry you feel slighted as a transfer but Georgetown does not have the placement to pump 600 JDs out each year. End of storyAnonymous User wrote:Or maybe your inability to get callbacks is because you blame other people for your own problems.Anonymous User wrote:I hope this OCI season prompts some soul searching for GULC. Our top 10% can’t get callbacks in what should be a home market but they still are taking 100+ transfers each year.

If too few people get jobs... is it possible they do another round of OCI’s? Maybe 3L OCI with way more firms?

Re: Georgetown OCI 2019
It's beyond their control to some extent. The lack of hires from 2019 OCI would become an unappealing data point for many firms. GULC is more likely to focus their efforts on students if they take action at all. The most probable outcome would be them holding tons of events/workshops for next years' 2Ls in an effort to improve their people skills before OCI. If they're feelin real wild they may even start conducting interviews for new admits.

If an employer said something along the lines of "We'll contact you soon" at the end of the screener, is it safe to assume I will at least get a ding rather than silence?

We should remember that at Northwestern, a school with BigLaw chops similar to GULC's, only 38% of students got their post-graduation job from OCI. There is a non-insignificant number that end up with a Big Law position that doesn't come through OCI.

Re: Georgetown OCI 2019
okay, time for me to give this information. If you can afford it, you can apply for a JD/LLM joint program at the end of 2L and you can participate in OCI again since you are graduting in 2022.Anonymous User wrote:If too few people get jobs... is it possible they do another round of OCI’s? has all hope already been lost or would you all give it a full week from the screener interview before assuming it's a no-go?

Re: Georgetown OCI 2019
3L OCI has very few participating firms and even less NY or DC offices. JD/LLM program is an option, but you still have some time to get a summer position out of OCI throughout 2L year. Start massmailing as early as possible.Anonymous User wrote:If too few people get jobs... is it possible they do another round of OCI’s? Maybe 3L OCI with way more firms?
