Part of me thinks the school should do a shorter note competition that allows journals to be released sooner. Ultimately, wouldn't this seem to improve people's odds when mass mailing?

Actually no, not everyone knows about this.Anonymous User wrote:Can we cut it out with this garbage? - Or..how about the guy who didn't get a CB and stated "Oh whatever, I guess don't hire the kid at the top of his class. Fuck me right?"
- Even better...the guy who decided it was a good idea to knock 5 minutes before the official knock-time during the screener, because he wanted to give the people in the room notice.
Curious to hear if there are more.

Agreed. This would've improved pre-AJF mm results.Anonymous User wrote:Part of me thinks the school should do a shorter note competition that allows journals to be released sooner. Ultimately, wouldn't this seem to improve people's odds when mass mailing?

The school doesn't decide this. You want a shorter writing comp, get the leadership on all 3 journals to agree on a workable proposal. Ball will be in your court soon.Anonymous User wrote:Part of me thinks the school should do a shorter note competition that allows journals to be released sooner. This is the kind of attitude that prevents anything from changing, ever. Is this a law school or a frat house?WeeBey wrote:Nah. Fuck that. Re: Cornell 2016 AJF/BOJF/DCJF/OCI
I agree, I don't know why the journal write-on isn't shorter. I am pretty sure that ours is the longest out of all the T-14s. I didn't do much mass mailing, but I am pretty sure it would have been much more effective with a journal line, even if it was a secondary journal? But much like the legal industry itself, its hard to teach an old dog a new trick.
And in regards to AJF as a whole, it really seems to be either feast or famine. I wonder if the industry as a whole is just being more selective or if firms are projecting a decrease in volume due to Brexit, which is perfectly timed for 2018 graduation.

Agree with everything you said, anon. Most of my fellow externs at my summer job from other schools got journal results weeks earlier than we did. I personally know of several people who hesitated in mass mailing while waiting for their results to come out.Anonymous User wrote:I agree, I don't know why the journal write-on isn't shorter. Also, it seems like more law firms did extensive recruiting during the summer in an effort to jump the gun on other law firms. Some shops may have plenty of offers already outstanding, and are therefore more hesitant to reach out to those candidates they feel are borderline. Summer Associate recruiting is becoming a mess. Pretty soon OCI will start right after second semester ends.

I hate this attitude, because it's precisely what keeps things from changing (as someone else said). Moreover, can we please not talk shit about fellow classmates? Yes, they had a faux pas, leave it at that or at worst, vent amongst your friends. Don't air it out in public for no reason.WeeBey wrote:Nah. Fuck that.
