It looks like Fed. Programs, Commercial Lit., and Consumer Prot. are the only Civil branches that have posted finalists.

Just checking here, the sense is that branches select their finalists and alternates, and turn them in once. Not that there is more than one round of selection. So if you interviewed with more than one component, and were selected by one, but not the other, there's no reason to think that the other component is something you need to consider in weighing your offer, right?

Basically, finalists are final, yes?

Ok great thanks! I wasn't sure what the update containing "mostly Federal Programs" finalists meant.

Any idea as to what "finalist" actually means in OCIJ? Does this mean these people are probably getting offers, just working out geographic preferences, or is this just essentially another round of cuts? Can finalists be alternates?

Slow day as Deana is away until tomorrow, so figured I'd ask.

I'm pretty sure Deanna has said that components can designate additional finalists later? Edit: this post http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... a#p8952251

As for OCIJ, finalists definitely include alternates.

I am also under the impression that OCIJ finalist include primaries and alternatives if you look at this thread for previous years there were people who got designated as a finalist early on and never were ultimately offered a position. I think having your references checked early can be a good sign for OCIJ as ones who never heard their references were called tended to be the alternates from reading this thread from previous years. Also I heard back from two of my references that they were contacted by email and had a deadline of 11/24 (this Tuesday) to reply back with their responses so I am not sure if this is a good sign that they are moving fast and we will hear back soon or they are just beginning to collect references but won't issue offers for a little while. Stay strong with all this waiting and good luck to everyone.

Anyone out there interview with FBI OGC, if so, have your references been checked? I only had one checked but it was before my interview and nothing since.

OCIJ emailed my references this afternoon and gave them until Nov. 30th to respond, so I guess they have a while.

Does anyone think there is reason to panic for OCIJ finalist with no reference checks right now?

I don't think so my references were checked last Thursday and the people that just posted said they had theirs checked today so they probably just doing it gradually since there are so many to be checked.

for any crim division finalists out there, i have some bad news, historically speaking, to report. in 2012, finalists were announced the same day that offers were extended. that year, though, the forum didn't get word of any offers until the next week: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/s ... r&start=50.

same thing seems to have happened in 2013: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... &start=425.

and last year there were a few criminal division finalists, but no one ever posted that they'd received an offer.

hoping that this year is different.,,

Upon further reflection, isn't this what makes sense? What would the delay be for divisions where geographical preferences aren't in play? Why would they identify finalists without also ranking them? And once you do that, why not just extend the offers?

Damn. Looks like I didn't make the initial selection for ENRD. Can't say I'm surprised after bombing my interview...

I haven't heard from any of my references either, and I was totally counting on them to make up for my interview. :(

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
