Eta - I imagine news will be out for each starting class. So end of September/October for everyone.
Does this bump up other class years as well? Or is dipshit mcpimplyface going to be making more than me haha
NO they're just going to start paying 1st years more than 2nd years and 3rd years. They'll get bigger bonuses, nicer shoulder bags, and better treatment form the partners too.
aw man they'll probably get iphone 6s too
but do we get our own offices??

im hearing other firms (looking at you DLA Piper) that wont be able to match will only be bumping midlevels and senior associates. totally new compensation game now. this is just rumor though. ill let yall know once thats confirmed. im surprised yall associates arent hearing anything about this. yall should try working less and hanging out at the watering hole more keeping up with firm gossip.

If my V13 gives first years $175k and an iPhone 6 I will not be complaining.

He's not wrong, but he's posting seriously in a NYC 2 190K thread, so I will make fun of him.

Better question: what kind of puppy are you all choosing??

How many firms will be able to match $190k? It would be really interesting if there was a huge divide between firms

How much more would NYC have to pay than firms in say Chicago? Texas? To be a better deal.

what we know: at least 20 firms will be moving and this will include NYC, Chicago, and DC.

what we don't know: the amount and also Texas/Cali firms.
I'm assuming that California is moving too, I just cant confirm. I'm assuming the move is to at least 170k.

Based on the picture I'm hearing it looks like a pack of firms will lead to 190k in NYC. Then a straggler group for 175k in NYC and other cities. The big surprise mover is Willkie Farr at 190k in a pack with other V10 firms, which is basically putting pressure on the rest of the V30-V50 right now.

I don't want to give away too much info about how I got this intel but it's safe to say I snuck into a partner's corner office and called another managing partner and just quickly said "What's the deal about compensation?" He must not have noticed my voice difference and only seen the caller ID pop up. He proceeded to tell me everything for about 8 mins and then i said "Gotta GO!"

WWDRD - also started living by this new motto What would Da Rascal do?! 8)

For 2Ls is it better to hope they hold off for another year, so that firms aren't more tempted to no offer?

These firms are making $ hand over fist and they literally cannot find enough competent mid levels. This will not affect the offer rate. I'm excited because based on the above it appears my firm is going to $170k+.

I definitely would not believe that based on what Johann is saying. Sounds like he is enjoying 'trolling' people but sadly is spending way too much of his time doing so. Jokes on him I guess.

I think most of us would settle for $175k base for a first year. That's $200k base for a third year at least, and bonuses will have to go up to match the base increases accordingly.

Sounds like they're moving up, sounds like NYC is highly likely to get to 190.

Let's wait and see what happens in other cities. Hopefully not disappointing 'also-ran' salaries 15k lower.
